The Ratline is an investigative puzzle game. You take the role of an investigator in 1971, piecing together information from contacts, leads and documents, to solve a series of cases around the globe. The previous game by the same developer is Riley and Rochelle.

Case 1: One Last Case

Evidence

In this tutorial case you start with all of the evidence, and are introduced to the game interface. Follow the instructions until you receive the goal to complete the case.

Evidence

Review all of the starting evidence on the board, including flipping over the photograph.

As suggested, use the Rolodex to contact Diego Rodrigo Tailoring - you will end up with a transcript of the phone conversation and a patient list for Dr A Schmidt.

Next use the Rolodex to contact Canadian Dentistry Org. From this conversation you will get another transcript, a conference photo and a conference newsletter.

Case 3: The French Collection

From the docks photo, use the Rolodex to dial Pelicot and Partners - this will give you a transcript as well as 4 new pieces of evidence to examine.

The boat in the back of the docks photo has the name Siegfried. Search the library for Siegfried Shipping Routes. You can also search the library for Hoffman Corporate Restructuring and Hoffman Employee Found Dead. Pin all of these to your evidence board.

Read The Dublin Times article, then use your Rolodex to contact Ballymun Garda Station. You will get another transcript.

From your discussion with Pelicot and Partners, there was the suggestion to look back in the archives - look back to Case 1, specifically at "Office desk - Hoffman's Pawn" and "Bus Tour Photo, 1971".

Case 4: The Day of the Cobra

Evidence

Review all of the starting evidence on the board.

From the second surveillance photograph, one of the people is reading the Condor newspaper. Search the library for Condor, then read the Tromso Bridge Article.

The third surveillance photograph has a shop called La Vid Encan. Use your Rolodex to contact La Vid Encantada, and you will get a transcript as well as a new photo (which has a message on the reverse side). Notice the rooster on the roof of this photo, and the message that the journalist wrote an article about something he killed and cooked. Search the library for Rooster, then read the Rooster's Cry article.

From the transcript with Juan from La Vid Encantada, there are only 2 stores in town (which would share the area code 234). Search through the Rolodex, then call Quesos Del Valle. You will get another transcript from Davide as well as a covert interrogation photo.

Search the library for the newspaper that Davide mentioned, Liberacion Nacional Letter. Read this and search for Concerto for Kasper and Skjult (to find the Chapter on Skjult).

The conversation with Davide mentions fish vans from Santa Corvina. The fourth surveillance photograph has a poster with the same name and the symbol of 3 fish. The second surveillance photograph shows a delivery van with the same symbol and a partial phone number. Try calling Santa Corvina Football Club from your Rolodex. Use the phone to dial the number with the same area code, but with the ending from the delivery van (242-175-169). This will give you a transcript from Pesquera Tinning. As hinted, search the library for a Pesquera Factory Letter.

Case 5: The Case of the Sunburnt Nazi

Evidence

Reading the Hyena docket you will see the name Puerto del Alba. Search for this in the library to find a Ferry Timetable and Weather Schedule. The seaside photo has a hotel on the left side. Search for the name Hotel Azul in the Rolodex and call them. You will end up with a transcript as well as 2 photos and a letter.

As suggested, search the library for Hotel Azul to find the floor plan and guestbook.

The photograph from room 301 has a teddy bear with "Belushi's" written on it. Search the library for Belushi to find a list of Belushi's stockists. Look through this list to see there is only one in Puerto del Alba - Cans of Glory. Use the Rolodex to phone them, and you will get another transcript, 2 photos and an agent card.

From the transcript, look up Playa Del Toro in the library to find some strategic instructions. Also look up Lazarossa to find a note containing names and specialisms as well as matching symbols.

Phone the number on the agent card (312-778-941). The conversation will give you a transcript and a script for "Tooth & Claw". From the transcript, look up Pantalla Sur Productions in your Rolodex and phone them - the answering machine message will give you a transcript.

The letter mentions Dr Schmidt and an oronectomy, so go back and get the Schmidt patient list from Case 2. You also need the Diego Rodrigo Tailoring transcript from Case 2.

The letter mentions the Accione. Look this up in the library to find a squad composition guide. Also look up Valle Plane in the library to find the VP municipal placement guide. You need to find a photography company. Look at the map and search in the Rolodex for the towns listed, then contact Quiru Cameras & Photography. This will get you a transcript and 5 photographs.

The woman from the photography store mentioned the Aurora comet. Search for this in the library to get a star map. She also mentioned burned voting booths; bring up the Liberacion Nacional letter from Case 4. Also, one of the photos you just received is the same as the vineyard photo from Case 4, so bring that up too.

The baptism photo is at the Santo Cristo Church, so use your Rolodex to phone them. You will get another transcript, as well as a document regarding the church and Scorpion meeting notes.

The parade photo has a poster for Brisa de Uva. Search for this in the library to get a wine festival poster. Examine this, then use your Rolodex to call Montefiore Watches.

The stadium photo shows a Frente Socialista poster in the rear view mirror. Use your Rolodex to call Frente Socialista - the transcript mentions a green Ford Falcon. Search for this in the library to locate Sao Paolo Motors. The internal memo you find has a list of names and plate numbers.

Search the library for Embassy and you will find 2 floor plans and some lists of sign-ins and weapons. Use your Sonitron to dial 104-05-31-41-42, and you will get a transcript and an Ambassador's room photo. The transcript mentions Monarch cigarettes. Search for this in the library to find a cigarette machine advert.

Next use your Sonitron to dial 104-03-11-91 to get another transcript and a security room photo. From the weapons list, there were 2 guards that signed weapons out at the same time. Use the Sonitron to dial 104-06-21-22 to get another transcript and a media room photo.

There are 3 video reels in the media room photo. Search for Western, Viewpoint and World Focus in the library to get sound effects lists and transcriptions. There is a link to Hoffman mentioned earlier in the case, so bring up the Hoffman Corporate Structure from Case 3.

Based on the last Sonitron transcript, 21 will be chaperoning a group in the lobby. Use the Sonitron to dial 104-04-11-21-31-91 to get a transcript and a locker room photo. This photo shows cigarettes with red and green bands (Monarch and Copper Leaf). Based on this, use the Sonitron to dial 104-01-11-41 and you will get another transcript and a basement photo.

Since you know the journalist went down to the archives, you can assume this was the basement. Use the Sonitron to dial 104-08-31-91 to get another transcript and an embassy photo.

The final Sonitron conversation you can overhear relates to a hint from the first one you heard. The G that had a bad day was Geronimo the horse that 22 bet on. Use the Sonitron to dial 104-02-22.

Based on the docket, do a library search for Rothburg, and you will find a series of 5 paintings. The paintings have a logo in the corner. Use the Rolodex to phone Hoffman Auctions, and you will get a transcript and a Rothburg Auction Program.

From the Program, search the library for Cork Street Robbert article. From the transcript, there is mention of a journalist with a yellow bow tie, who was Bruce Unwin from Case 4. Contact his publisher Barnardo Publishing using the Rolodex. You will get another transcript and a New Jersey Ports photo.

From this photo, search the library from Tristan Transit to get their routes.

Look back at the Office Desk picture from Case 1 to see mention of the Rose Street Gallery in Amsterdam. Phone them on 352-243-777. You will get a transcript from the answering machine.

Back to the transcript from Hoffman Auctions, the name Harland Cottrell is mentioned. Search for him in the library to find an Austin Chronicle article. Next use your Rolodex to contact the Austin Chronicle. You will get a transcript as well as a Good Day Motel photo, and a poem on the same paper as the note to Anneliese. The transcript mentions the Magnolia Ball, so search for this in the library to get a Magnolia Ball photo.

The Good Day Motel photo has an open window on the left and you can see a Sonitron inside. Use your Sonitron to dial 134-01-11-12 and you will get a transcript of the conversation. Use your Sonitron to dial the other room on 134-03-21-31 to get another transcript.

From the first conversation, bring up the Hoffman Wedding photo and the Hoffman Employee Found Dead article from Case 3. There is also mention of Rorschach syndrome, so search the library for an article on this.

You will get a transcript which mentions a cafe in Rome run by a man named John. Look back at the Hoffman Corporate Structure from Case 3 to see Cafe 405 in Rome is run by John Smith.

Use your Rolodex to call Cafe 405, and you will get a transcript as well as documents about Operation Trident and The Ratline.

Look back through your case photos and you will often see a bald man with small square glasses - for example the Bus Tour photo from Case 1.

Look back at the Hotel Azul guestbook from Case 5 to see Daniel H checked into room 304.

Look back at the list of sponsors on the Conference Sheet from Case 2. Try calling each of them, but you will only get an answer from Hopper & Co.
