Slender Threads is a side-scrolling point and click adventure game. You play as Harvey Green, a traveling salesman who suffers from recurring nightmares. You must investigate paranormal activity in a quiet town as you try to prevent your nightmares from becoming reality.

Getting Your Bearings

Main St West

Throughout the game, it would be a good idea not to use the hint system, and not to use the map to fast-travel, as doing these things will block certain achievements at the end of the game.

After completing the short tutorial, leave your room to enter the hallway. Head left down the hallway to the lobby. Talk to the manager, then ring the bell 5 times Ding Ding Ding. Talk to the socialite (Gladys), who will tell you about Oswaldo. Go outside and head right down the street. You will eventually overhear a radio drama and end up going inside an abandoned building. Look at the papers on the wall and move the colored papers around to reveal a message:

Lift the corner of the rug to find a key, then use this on the desk to unlock it. The Sheriff will come in now and send you back to your hotel room. Go back outside again and head right to return to Oswaldo's house. Talk to the officer here, who will not let you inside. Take the mannequin from the dumpster on the right. Return to the hotel and enter your room. Pick up the housekeeping sign from your bedside table, then go out to the hallway and place this on the door to room 1.

After the housekeeping cart arrives, take the housekeeping key from it. Go left to the lobby and use this key to enter the laundry on the left. Search the hamper to get some clothes, then put these on the mannequin in your inventory. While you are here, grab a wrench from the toolbox on the right. Head back outside and walk right until you see the red crosswalk sign. Try to cross the road and you will almost get hit by a car. Use your dressed mannequin on the crosswalk. After the accident, go right and enter Oswaldo's house again.

Use the key on the desk to unlock it. After the vision, look at the desk and read through the diary. Now take the map Welcome to Villa Ventana. Try to leave via the main door, but the officer has returned. Go left and enter the bathroom. Climb out the window to the alley.

Locating Lena

Main St West

Leave the alley and head right to Main St Central.

Main St Central

Keep going right until you can enter City Hall. Go through the door on the right into the clerk's office. Talk to the clerk and ask for Lena's address, but you need credentials. Head back outside and talk to the hot dog vendor to end up with some ketchup packets. Return to the street signs to the left, then head up.

First Street

Go right past the drunk man, and enter the open house. The realtor will talk to you once you head further inside, then won't leave you alone in the house. Go back outside and head left.

Main St Central

Head to the right right and enter the bookstore. Pick up the umbrella from the stand on the right. Head back outside and talk to the construction worker on the right repeatedly Constructive Dialogue. Return to the far left.

First Street

Enter the open house again. Go left and enter the bedroom. Examine the closet and say "No, it looks small". Once the realtor is inside, use your umbrella on the closet to trap him, and he will give you his business card. Leave the bedroom and head out to the entrance, searching the gift basket to get a cigar cutter. Head back outside and return left.

Main St West

Enter Oswaldo's house through the bathroom window in the alley. Go out to the main room and pick up the scissors from the floor, then leave again. Next head to the hotel and enter your room. Pick up a manuscript from the stool next to the desk. In your inventory, use the scissors on the manuscript to remove your photo. Head back outside and go right.

Main St Central

Enter City Hall again and this time go to the museum. Examine the wax statue, then use your cigar cutter on it to remove the statue's finger. Now talk to the wax statue (1/3). Go back outside and head right, then enter the casino. Take some matches from the ashtray on the left as you enter. Return outside and go left.

First Street

Go back to the open house and enter the kitchen. Use your matches on the oven, then use the wax finger on the oven. Attach the wax to the back of your photo, then stick your photo to the realtor ID. Return outside again.

Main St Central

Go to City Hall and enter the clerk's office again. Show your fake realtor ID to the clerk, then you will automatically go to Lena's house Bleak House.

Visiting the Doctor

Third Street

Use the radio in the shelves to the right and you will see some more visions. Take the oil lamp from the desk on the left, then head outside Go left and take the flowers from the garden, then continue to the far left several times.

First Street

Return to the open house and go inside. Enter the bedroom and remove the umbrella from the closet Free Fosco. Go back outside and head right, then knock on the door to the doctor's office - ask what constitutes an emergency, then ask about the "shroom gulpers". Leave here for now.

Second Street

Go right and talk to the man in his front yard - he will not give you any gas. Look at his radio, but you cannot see the frequency from where you are standing. Go to the far right along this street and head up the path to the observatory.

Observatory

Talk to the guide about everything to get Pluto in a pot. Go to the right and try to take the spyglass, then use your wrench on it. Also take a broken compass from the display on the wall. Now make your way back outside.

Second Street

Go back to the man in his front yard, and use the spyglass on him Who Watches the Watchman. Now use it on his radio to see its frequency.

Main St East

Enter the appliance store and talk to the salesman about everything. Talk to the transmitter on the counter Space Invader. Now use the transmitter - set the frequency to 30 MHz, then provide any situation.

Second Street

Head back to the front yard and take the fuel can. Use this on your oil lamp, then use your matches on it to light it.

Main St West

Go to the far left and follow the bunny rabbit Into the Woods.

Forest

Go left until you find an archway of vines - open this and go through. Continue left and examine the stone head, then talk to the stone head (2/3). Now take the crowbar from the corpse. Return to town.

First Street

Go to the far right, past the doctor's office, and enter the grounds of the hunting club. Try to take the weaponry from the wall next to the main doors. Use your crowbar on the weaponry, then take the cutlass. Talk to the left statue (3/3) The Strong Silent Type. Now return to the forest.

Forest

Head left past the archway and along the right fork. Use your cutlass on the brambles, then continue left and collect some mushrooms.

First Street

Return to the doctor's office and use your mushrooms on the door. Once you are awake, grab the tray from the end of your bed, and place it on the pillow. Turn on the exam lamp to blind the eyes, then take the clock key from the clock beneath the eyes. Go to the right room and take the music box from the desk. Combine the clock key and music box, then use this on the ears. Now you can pick up the pipe from beneath the ears. Pick up the document from the table in the left room. Use this on the stove, then use the burning paper on the pipe to light it. Give the lit pipe to the lungs. Now you can take the puzzle cube from the shelves. Give the puzzle cube to the brain in the left room. Search the filing cabinet and you will end up outside Routine Checkup.

Entering the Sanatorium

Third Street

Go to the far right end of this street to find the sanatorium.

Sanatorium

Go inside and talk to the receptionist - you cannot see Lena without knowing her visitor code.

Main St Central

Enter City Hall again, then go through the left door into the archives room. Read the book on the table in the middle of the room to see some numbers like the ones on Lena's code, as well as reference to the stone head in the forest, and a jade artifact. When you back out, you will take this old journal with you.

Main St East

Enter the police station. Go left and talk to Mortimer about everything. Return outside and go to the far right towards the shore.

Shore

Pick up the fishing net from next to the stand. Go further right and use your cutlass on the anchor, then pick it up.

Second Street

Enter the Little Italy pizzeria. Try to take the pizza peel from next to the oven, but the chef won't let you take it. Go up the stairs on the right, then return towards the left and use your fishing net on the clothesline. Go back down and talk to the pizza chef about everything, then take the pizza peel.

Shore

Collect some clay from the left. Use the pizza peel on the boat and you will row across to the lighthouse.

Lighthouse

Use your anchor on the ladder to lower it, then climb up. Head down through the hatch to get inside. Pick up the drill from the table on the right, then leave again.

Second Street

Enter the pottery shop. Talk to the potter and give him your clay in exchange for a clay chip.

Main St East

Enter the police station. Examine the lockers to the left, then use your drill on them and take the staff from inside. Go back outside and enter the barber shop. Talk to the mirror on the left wall Daily Affirmations with Harvey Green. Talk to the barber about his fear of blood, then use the ketchup packets on him as a prank. Take some hair from the rubbish bin before going back outside. Now enter the beauty salon just to the right. Use your hair on the hair dryers - after the women leave you can take some nail polish from the stand on the left. Back outside, go to the police station and use your nail polish on the wanted poster (1/3).

Third Street

To the right of Lena's house, use your nail polish on the wanted poster (2/3) on the Automaton factory. Visit the clockmaker's shop on this street and talk to the clockmaker - he cannot fix your compass unless you bring him new fuses.

Main St East

The sheriff will now be outside the barber shop, so enter the police station and take some handcuffs from the right wall.

First Street

Go to the brick wall to the right of the hunting club and use your nail polish on the wanted poster (3/3) Street Artist.

Main St Central

Enter the casino and use your nail polish on your clay chip. Give this to the cashier on the right to get some coins. Go back outside and throw coins into the fountain outside City Hall 3 times Three Wishes.

Main St East

Use your coins in the Mutoscope outside the grocery store Ooh La La.

Main St Central

Talk to the motorcyclist to the left - agree to go on a tour and give him your coins.

Ventana Peak

Go up to the summit. Use your staff in "The Window". Climb back down and talk to the motorcyclist to return to town.

Main St Central

Enter the bookstore and go through to the reading room. Pick up the red gloves from one of the chairs.

Lighthouse

Climb inside again. Look at the barrel on the right, then use your gloves in the barrel to create some rubber gloves.

Main St East

Enter the beauty salon again and open the fuse box on the right. Use your rubber gloves to remove the fuses.

Third Street

Enter the clockmaker's shop and offer the clockmaker your fuses. Go back outside and open the fuse box on the outside of the clockmaker's shop and put the new fuses in. Go back inside and take the tools from the counter, then use them on your compass to repair it.

Ventana Peak

Head up to the summit again. Use your compass on the lighthouse

Lighthouse

Climb inside and use the mechanism on the left - turn it to 320 degrees.

Forest

Go through the archway and touch the stone head to open it, then go inside The Hidden Temple. Continue left until you reach a sealed door. Look in your old journal to see the same symbols, and then press them in the order of the planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune):

Head inside. Use your handcuffs on the counterweight just inside on the right - this will keep the door open. GO left and look at the broken sundial on the floor, then use Lena's code on it to see that the symbols match. You can also work out the code, which is 8293, with some symbols made by combining pairs of others. Go further to the right and take the idol - if you didn't use the handcuffs the door will close, so replace the idol and try again. Leave here and return to town.

Sanatorium

Go inside and talk to the receptionist, giving the code 8293. Head up the stairs on the right, where the nurse will ask you to follow, but if you get separated you should "find Neverland". Based on the tale of Peter Pan, this is a reference to following the "second star to the right". Go through the door, and the nurse will be gone, so based on the stars in the corridors, go through these doors:

  • Fourth door
  • Fifth door
  • Second door
  • Third door
  • Fourth door

You will find the nurse again Straight On Till Morning. During your talk with Lena you will receive a factory key.

Locating Vincent

Third Street

Go to the Automaton factory and use the key on the cellar door in the alley to the left, then head down into the basement The Clockwork Man. Use the scrap pile on the right to get a mechanical baby. Now head up the stairs on the right to the lab. Continue right into the test chamber. Press the button at the left end of the conveyor and watch how the traps activate.

Return left and pick up a punch card, then use it on the key punch machine on the left. You need to create a program by pressing the buttons. Create any random program and press the red print button to get a programmed punch card. Use this on the pile of punch cards to get a new blank one. Repeat this a total of 5 times Debugging Session. Now pick up another punch card and program the correct order (which can be worked out by trial and error, and watching the traps on the conveyor belt):

Press the red print button and you will get a programmed punch card. This time put it into your mechanical baby. Go right into the test chamber and use your programmed baby on the conveyor. Now you can crawl over the conveyor and head up the stairs into the office. Use the radio in here. After the vision, pull the rope on the right. Take the card from Vincent's pocket. Now return back out of the factory.

Go left and enter Lena's house. Use Vincent's punch card on the typewriter, then read the decoded message in your inventory. Return to the factory and make your way through to the office again. Open the safe and read Vincent's letter. Also take some herbicide from inside the safe. Make your way back down to the basement and use the herbicide on the large vine RIP Vine. Now head outside again. Open the the hood of the black car to the left of Lena's house to find a hidden cat (1/3).

Joining Clubs

Second Street

Enter the nursery, which is quite far to the right. Talk to Judy and Constance. In your inventory, combine your flowers with your Pluto in a pot to make a floral arrangement. Pick up the spray bottle from the judging table on the right and combine it with your herbicide. Place the poison spray back on the judging table. Talk to Constance again and suggest the plants look dry. Now put your floral arrangement on the judging table, and you will win the competition The Garden Party.

Take the gas mask from the table on the left. Head back outside and shake the tree in the front left of the nursery's yard to find a hidden cat (2/3).

Forest

Go left and head along the left fork. Try to walk through the flowers. Now use your gas mask on the flowers. Talk to the cultists about everything, including your idol. Leave the forest after your conversation.

First Street

Search the trash cans outside the hunting club to find another hidden cat (3/3) Scaredy Cats. Now head inside the hunting club. Go to the far left until Gordon and Paul speak to you - you will be kicked out.

Main St Central

Enter the bookstore and go through to the reading room again. Use your manuscript on the podium.

First Street

Enter the hunting club again and walk left to talk to Gordon again. You will head outside for an archery evaluation. When it is Gordon's turn to shoot, select to use the idol. Now you will be invited out on a hunting trip.

Escape

Return left to the campsite. Grab the hatchet, frying pan and some grease from the bucket on the left. Use the grease on the fire to melt it. Return towards the right and use your hatchet on the tree with the hanging vines to get a vine. Now head right to the ruins.

Continue right past the mechanism, up the ramp and down into the temple. Try to take the staff from the middle statue. Use your melted grease on it, then take the staff. Use your frying pan on the broken shield to the left. Go back outside and up the ramp. Use your staff on the seal, then go back into the temple. Pick up a bone from the remains in the right corner of the room.

Return outside and go left to the mechanism. Use the bone and then the vine on the mechanism to create a trap. During the final confrontation with the Sheriff, choose either option Slender Threads.

Epilogue

Talk to the driver beneath the car. Take a screwdriver from the toolbox on the left, then use this on the No Parking sign to the right. Use your No Parking sign on the Free Parking sign to the left. Now search the bag to the right of the car.

Talk to the barber. Pick up the rug from the floor and a towel from the rack. Use the towel to cover the parrot, then grab the scissors. Use the scissors to open the trap door in the floor, then place the rug over the open trap door. Turn on the hair dryers on the left. Now take the invitation from the vanity on the right.

Talk to the electrician on the left. Pick up the ladder, then use it on the tools over the front of the hardware store to the left. Now take the wrench from the tools. Use the wrench on the fire hydrant.

Head right and take the wanted poster and the clothing from the line. Now go to the far left and take the mannequin and the scooter. Combine all 4 of these items to create a decoy Harvey. Use this on the security guard, then watch the final scenes Among the Shadows.

You will now also get two more achievements depending on how you completed the main game:

  • For not using the map to fast travel Get Your Steps In
  • For not revealing additional hints No Notes
