Tutorial

The first time you play the game, you will arrive at the River Fields Mortuary during the daytime to complete your first shift. You can replay this part of the game by selecting the "Reset Intro" button from the game settings.

Mortuary

Once you arrive at work, pick up the pencil from the desk and use it to sign the paperwork on the door to the left. Go down the hallway to the embalming room to meet Raymond. Stand behind the gurney and take the body to the cold storage area. Open the middle door (Oswald Dolton) and put the body away.

Open the left door (Dorothy Page) and retrieve the body, then take it back to the embalming room. Pick up the clipboard, which will guide you through the embalming process this time and for all future shifts.

Now you need to inspect the body, by moving each body part and clicking on any unique markings. Focus on each of these areas:

• Head
• Both shoulders
• Both arms
• Both legs

Go over to the computer and open the Record System. Enter the data by clicking on parts of the clipboard, then on the matching fields in the computer. Click the Submit button when you are done, then turn right and pick up the embalming report from the printer. Head out to the reception area and place this in the rack on the wall.

Return to the embalming room. This time, Raymond will have everything lined up for you near the window that you will need. In future shifts you will have to find the equipment yourself in the shelves around the room. Follow these steps, which are always visible on your clipboard:

1. Pick up the setting needles and needle injector. Examine the deceased's head and use the needle injector repeatedly, then draw the mouth closed.
2. Pick up the eye caps. Open both of the deceased's eyelids. Place the eye caps over the eyes, then close them again.
3. Open the pump, which is next to the deceased. Pick up each of these 4 bottles of fluid from around the room and pour them into the pump: glutaraldehyde, methanol, humectant, formaldehyde. You will automatically close the pump again.
4. Pick up the scalpel, artery forceps and PVC tubing. Examine the deceased's neck. Use the scalpel, then the artery forceps, then the PVC tubing.
5. Activate the pump to drain the body, then turn it off again when the fluid coming out is clear.
6. Examine the deceased's neck again. Remove the PVC tubing and artery forceps, then close the wound.
7. Pick up an IV reservoir bag and fill it with cavity fluid from the container in the shelves here.
8. Pick up a trocar, then examine the deceased's abdomen. Poke the trocar around to fill the body with cavity fluid.
9. Go out to the bathroom closet, which comes off the main reception area. Pick up a bottle of cleaner base from the shelves and use it on the container from the shelves - you will end up with tank cleaner.
10. Return to the embalming room. Open the pump, pour in the tank cleaner, then turn on the pump.
11. Pick up a moisturizing pad and use it on the deceased's face.

Head back out to your car My First Body.

Apartment

Turn on the radio above the television set and listen until the program completely repeats I'm DJ Two-Shades. Pick up the keys from the table next to the sofa, then head out.

First Shift

Open the doors and head inside, then close them behind you. Pick up the red vase on the entry table and throw it Throw The Vase. Enter the bathroom just to the left and flush the toilet 10/10 Immersion.

When the reception phone rings, answer it to talk to Raymond. Open the red box on the desk and take out the contents. Search the desk drawers and take out a fuse from the bottom right drawer. Pick up the match box from the small side table. Use the hall key to unlock the door, then go through to the embalming room.

When the phone rings, answer it to talk to Raymond again. After the conversation, try to use the phone again The Phone's Dead!. Pick up mini cassette tape 1 from the desk. Try to press the Turbo button on the desktop computer TURBO!.

Grab the clipboard from the desk, then go and get one of the bodies from cold storage and bring it out to the embalming room. Start to examine the body and you will have your first visions. Run out to the reception and head outside (you will be moving slowly). Run out to the main gate and try to open it, then try to use the car to drive away. Finally, try to climb the high fence to the side of the car No Way Out.

Head back inside and finish examining the body. Use the computer to enter the details into the Record System, then collect the embalming report from the printer. While you are here, use the old key to unlock the wooden cabinet near the computer. Pick up mini cassette tape 2 from inside the cabinet. Also pick up mini cassette tape 3 from in front of the cabinet. Head out to the reception area and place the embalming report in the rack on the wall.

Return to the embalming room. Now proceed through all the steps like you did in the tutorial, except this time you will have to find the equipment around the room. You also need to add the baleful reagent to the pump before running it. Complete the embalming process Flying Solo.

Now return the body to cold storage. Repeat this process with both of the other bodies. The next time something strange happens, just keep ignore it and keep going on with your job I ain't afraid of no ghost. Pay attention to which one of the bodies seems to exhibit more movements or other strange features. Return the final body to cold storage.

Now take a letting strip from inside the wooden cabinet. Use it and walk around until it bursts into flame, then take note of the sigil that is burned into something nearby. Repeat this with another 3 letting strips, noting down all 4 sigils. Look in the top drawer of the tall cabinet near where you get the cavity fluid. Examine Raymond's ID badge and flip it over to see a code on the back (this is a different code with each shift). Go to the computer and open the Night Shift, entering the code you just saw. Read through the information and find the correct orientation of the 4 sigils that matches a known demon.

Back in the wooden cabinet, create the mark by placing the correct 4 symbols in the appropriate positions, then pick it up. If you already know the correct body, bring it back out onto the gurney. If you aren't sure yet, bring each of them out and examine them again for new signs. If you still aren't sure, you can pick up a bag from the shelves opposite the retort and use it to collect some ashes from in front of the retort. Put this on one of the bodies you suspect, then light the ash with the match. If the symbol matches the symbol of the demon you have the right body.

Once you are sure you have the correct body and the correct sigils selected on the mark, place the mark on the body. Push the gurney up to the retort. Press the button and you will burn the body I Survived.

Subsequent Shifts

Each night in the mortuary will play out slightly differently, with different visions and events happening. As well as the successful ending you achieved on the first night, there are 5 other potential endings, as outlined below. Sometimes the lights will go out, and you need to use the fuse from the drawers in the reception, placing it in the fusebox in the bathroom cupboard.

Correct Ending

This occurs when you successfully complete another shift, by examining and embalming at least 1 body, then burning the correct body with the correct mark.

Incorrect Ending

This occurs when you either select to burn the wrong body, forget to add the baleful reagent, have the wrong sigils on the mark, or forget the mark entirely Let Me In.

Basement Ending

As a random event at some point, a set of basement doors will appear in the cold storage room. Open these and go down the stairs. Explore the area to find a series of 6 stone figures that each have a number on their head, and a symbol indicating which part of the 6-digit code that number represents. Open all of their mouths to find a key. You will need this key to get through a wooden door to leave the area and return to the mortuary.

Search the low cupboards in the embalming room to find a keypad and enter the code you discovered: 197044. Take out the hatch key. While you are here, search the bottom drawer beneath where you find the computer code and move a scrunched up piece of paper so you can pick up a large old key.

Go outside through the door in cold storage and around to the right to find a set of outside basement doors. Use the hatch key to unlock these doors Six Feet Under. Continue down the stairs here and use your large old key to unlock the next door. Enter this room to hear from Vallery Our Secret Below. Go over to the coffin and talk to her. Return to the mortuary and complete your shift, making sure to select the correct body and mark.

Closure Ending

In your apartment, search inside a green folder in the drawers beneath the TV to find 2 sobriety coins and a necklace. Once you get to the mortuary, you need to pick up these items again from the second drawer beneath where you find the computer code.

There are 3 different random events where you can use these items. Sometimes you will see your dad on an embalming table in a dark environment and you can place the necklace on his chest. There are 2 different scenes where you will see yourself hanging with your arms outstretched, and you can place the coins in your hands. Either way, return to the mortuary and complete your shift, making sure to select the correct body and mark Closure.

Secret Ending

Search the low cupboards in the embalming room to find a keypad and enter the code you learned from the basement ending: 197044. Take out the hatch key. While you are here, search the bottom drawer beneath where you find the computer code and move a scrunched up piece of paper so you can pick up a large old key. Insert the fuse from the reception drawer in the fuse box in the bathroom closet.

Go outside and use the hatch key on the basement doors. Use your large old key to unlock the next door and talk to Vallery again. Take the mark from her coffin. Return to the mortuary and complete your shift, but this time place Vallery's mark on the correct body - after you use the retort, the shift will not end.

Head out to the basement once more. This time, pick up the hammer from the bench, then use this on the lock on the other wooden door. Examine the lock and move the small metal latch inside, then open the door Breaking and Entering. Inside this small workroom, take the bolt cutters from the wall. Return to Vallery and use the bolt cutters on the padlock on her coffin The House of Delver.

Final Achievements

There is an achievement for reaching all 6 official endings The Mortician. If you start another shift after reaching all endings, there is a letter from Raymond that you can read next to the computer in the embalming room The Unforgiven.

Although not another official ending, you can also become possessed by taking too long and experiencing too many haunt events without burning a body Just Give In.

While playing through multiple shifts and reaching all of the endings, you will almost certainly have seen all available visions All The Pieces.

There is an achievement for completing a shift within 45 minutes Speed Run. There is also an achievement for successfully completing a shift without embalming all of the bodies I Know You.

Embalming Only

From the main menu, select the Embalming Only option. Go through the complete embalming process for a single body Do the dead comfort you?. This is also the fastest mode to get through the final two achievements:

• Embalm a total of 100 bodies Well Preserved
• Burn a total of 50 bodies in the retort (you don't need to embalm them first) Light Em UP!
