Maple and Rufus: The Water Robbery is a short puzzle adventure game. You control two local detectives, Maple and Rufus, as they investigate reports that the water supply of the town of Pumpkin Hollow is under threat.

Outside

Look under the rock and take the small key. Use this on the small locked fuse box, then examine this to see which switches are turned on. Now examine the panel near the door and press the buttons corresponding to the active switches:

This will unlock the front door Tap tap tap.

The House

Suspects

For now, stick with Rufus and head inside the house. Click on your nose, then take the green gem from inside the pot plant on the floor. Head right and insert the green gem in the slot on the wall here. Continue right and click on your nose again. Pour fluid from each of the beakers on the shelf into the test tubes with matching colored scents. Now head back outside.

Switch to Maple and go inside, then head right. Click on your eyes, then examine the picture on the wall. There are 5 glowing symbols over the top of 5 houses, which have between 1 and 5 window. Look down at the cabinet below and set the symbols appropriate (first the one of the house with 1 window, then 2 windows, etc). Take the letter from the right door and read it - it contains anagrams of animals. Back out and look at the suspect list. Based on the letter, circle these names:

  • Herald the Mole
  • Amelia the Goose
  • Bill the Otter
  • Lily the Horse
  • John the Crow

You won't be able to circle any more once you have the correct 5 names The Suspects.

Exploring

Return left and look at the 5 objects in the top of the bookcase. For each of them, find a matching book in the shelves below and take note of the symbol on the book:

  • Anchor: Nautical adventures
  • Bell: Inventions of Graham Bell
  • Colosseum: Tour guide Rome
  • Rocket: To the moon and back
  • Medal: Gold Medalists

Take the white key from the left door. Go right and use this on the locked door, then head through. Into the darkness. Go through and click on your eyes, then click on the light switch. Read the red book to see a recipe for "Special juice". Look at the bottles just below this and rearrange their order according to the recipe:

  1. Love heart (1 dot)
  2. Water (2 dots)
  3. Flower (3 dots)
  4. Clockwise (1 dot)
  5. Music (3 dots)
  6. Apple (1 dot)
  7. Bee (2 dots)
  8. Anticlockwise (4 dots)

You will make a comment when the order is correct. Now look back in the recipe book to see the Column and Row markers. Based on the positions of the bottles and the numbers of dots on them, the correct Column is 3, and the correct Row is 9.

Pick up the red key, then go back through the door. Take note of the Maya numerals poster on the wall here. Go left twice. Open the bottom right cupboard door and take out a knob. Use the key to unlock the bottom left cupboard door, then look inside. You need to press the buttons around the edge that show the orientation of each of the Maya numerals from 1-9:

  1. Left
  2. Up
  3. Left
  4. Down
  5. Down
  6. Right
  7. Right
  8. Up
  9. Left

Take out the rune sheet. Go right and look at the small table on the left. Place the rune sheet here. Press the red button to activate a grid so it is easier to read, then look at the symbols in Column 3, Row 9. Set these symbols on the cabinet to the right, then take the cyan key from the middle door. Go right and use this on the desk drawer. Take out another knob and a letter. Read the letter - this mentions 4 locations, each containing a number (1, 6, 9, 3).

Location

Go back through the door and look at the numbered bottles in the wine rack. There are 5 bottles numbered 1-5. The positions of the bottles in each section correspond with the relative positions of pictures in the various rooms of the house:

  1. Top-left in the room with the rune cabinet.
  2. Top-right in the room with the bookcase
  3. On the door in the room with the test tubes
  4. In the room with the wine rack
  5. In the bookcase

Look at your location sketch. Click on each of the pencils from left to right, and select images that match the numbers:

  1. Fifth image
  2. Fourth image
  3. Second image
  4. Third image
  5. First image

Motive

Go to the rune cabinet and remove the green gem from the wall. Go right and insert the green gem on the side of the lab table. Attach the 2 knobs to the front of the table. Go left twice and move the picture on the wall to reveal the number 873. Return right twice and enter this number on the table using the knobs. Press the red button, then take the yellow gem. Return left and insert this in the wall Closer to the stars.

Climb up the ladder. Examine the telescope and enter the code 1693, based on the second letter you found. Now look through the telescope and you will see the arrangement of 4 planets. Back out and look at the model of the planets. You need to arrange them as you saw through the telescope, by rotating them with the buttons on the left. From the starting position, click on these planets:

  1. Jupiter (brown)
  2. Earth (blue)
  3. Mercury (red)
  4. Mercury (red)
  5. Earth (blue)
  6. Mercury (red)

The sun will open and you can take out a postcard. Examine this in your inventory, then add it to the evidence notebook Greetings!.

Climb down the ladder and back up again. Click on the glowing star in the sky. Take the envelope that is offered and look at the message inside. This shows 4 numbers in Morse code. Examine the telescope and enter the code 7428. Now look through the telescope New neighbours. Now head outside.
