Chapter 1
Ferrara: Castello Estense
Pick up the tube and open it, taking out a mysterious letter. Read this, then unroll the key from the bottom and take it. Also pick up the wooden spoon from the floor here. Now examine the door to your right. Use your key on the rivet and turn it, then use it on the lock and rotate it. Pull open the door and go through.
Turn around and examine the niche in the wall. Pick up the curiously shaped screw from here. Turn back around and use this screw on the nearest barrel, then turn it over. Zoom in on the top of the barrel. Pull down the pairs of levers so you can lift up and remove part of a torture device. Examine this and add the curiously shaped screw to it, then rotate it to complete the torture device.
Back out twice and examine the hatch in the floor. Try to lift it up, but it is too heavy for you. Attach the torture device to the middle of the hatch opening. Back out again and look left to the winch on the wall. Turn the handle counter-clockwise until the handcuff reaches the floor. Focus on the hatch again and attach the handcuff to the torture device. Now turn the winch handle clockwise to open the hatch until the hinge breaks. Use your wooden spoon on the winch NOVICE CRAFTSMAN. Turn the winch handle clockwise again, then climb down.
Pull the bolt down from the top of the gate, then head forward. Cross over the small wooden bridge and approach the wheel. Slide the small latch to unlock the handle, then turn the wheel clockwise until the grate opens. Back out and proceed beneath the grate, then continue forward until you can look at the front face of a locked metal box on the left. Rotate the outer circles so their openings point to the middle, then rotate the middle circle until the compartment opens. Take out a gold and silver-plated object. Now focus on the top of this box, and insert the gold and silver-plated object here. Pull this object down, then drag the pieces in the bottom corners into the middle.
Open the box and read the letter inside. Now pick up the burnished brass cone that was behind the letter. Insert this into the top of the spherical device, then push it down. Rotate the different layers to create a complete pattern on the surface of the sphere. Now you can pick up the Oculus Perpetua. Use this now to view the past:
Go to the lever and pull it to the right BRIDGES OF THE PAST. You will automatically return to the present.
Walk onto the restored bridge. Take the stone head from the niche on the left. Back out twice, then look at the small dark hole in the wall (beneath an archway). Insert the stone head here, then pull its mouth open and you will enter a cavern. Continue forward and up the stairs. Pull down the lever on the right, then open the gate and go through. Once the door across the courtyard opens, go inside.
Take the notebook when it is offered to you - make sure you open this whenever it flashes to indicate it contains new information. After the conversation, head through the doorway on the right GREAT ESCAPE.
Chapter 2
Milan: Santa Maria delle Grazie
Head along the path towards the gazebo (you will have a conversation with Leonardo along the way). Once you arrive, pick up the letter from the table and read it. Move the lone pillow on the bench here so you can pick up a prayer nut. Examine this in your inventory - pull out the pin, then open it and unfold the two wings. Open the small doors, then push the middle cross down. Open the bottom compartment and take the star-shaped crank. Focus on the middle of the table and insert this, then rotate it clockwise.
Examine the egg-shaped device that now appears. Press the small segment that protrudes slightly from the surface, and 4 segments will stick out further. Drag one of these further out, and the top of the egg will lift up. You now need to drag the metal symbols so they line up with the matching symbols on the boards protruding from the sides of the egg. Once all are correct, a different part of the egg will open.
This puzzle requires you to slide 5 bars up or down so that the marbles on each line up with yellow apples on the tree image behind. First you need to rotate the bars both horizontally and vertically. Now just slide the bars up or down until everything is lined up. Pick up the part of a mechanism that is then revealed.
Turn left and look at an opened square wooden alms box. Try turning the handle inside counter-clockwise, but the pot-plant is stuck and cannot move. Close the wooden post by lifting the cover up. Note the 4 symbols on the square metal component - this is a missable sketch (1/3). Back out and look at the section just above, then slide the metal disc to the left and lift open the lid at the top. Use the Oculus Perpetua to view the past:
Look at the armrest of the chair near the gate. Pull out the wooden bird ornament, then slide the button down. Beneath the armrest component that lifts up, slide the latch to the right, then you can take the disc with Roman numerals. Back out and look at the alms box on the left. Examine the front, and rotate the discs to show the 4 symbols you saw earlier (they are also in your notebook):
- Top-Left: Square
- Top-Right: Triangle
- Bottom-Left: Star
- Bottom-Right: Hexagon
You can pull the front cover open again. Head back to the present.
Look in the top of the alms box and insert your disc with Roman numerals. You need to drag the 4 numbers out to the sides, so that when adjacent numbers are added together they make the numbers in the corners:
Pull open the next compartment and take out a medallion. Examine this in your inventory and pull out one of the white clasps to convert it to an unfolded medallion. Turn around and insert this into the wooden cabinet. Now you need to use the left and right controls to move the angel statue over each node to eventually reach the silver dragon:
- Move down, then right to Aries
- Move down, left, then down to Leo
- Move left, left, up, then right to Libra
- Move up to Sagittarius
- Move left to Gemini
- Move down to Pisces
- Move right, then down to the dragon
Take the cogwheel assembly. Now examine the mechanism that is revealed. You need to get all 5 wheels at the top spinning at the same time, and each will spin only when its associated nut below is at the right height. If the nuts are numbered 1-5 from left to right, correctly position them in this order: 5, 3, 4, 1, 2.
The edge of the table will now lower. Go and examine it, and press the signs of the Zodiac in the same order that you traversed them earlier:
- Aries (ram)
- Leo (lion)
- Libra (scales)
- Sagittarius (archer)
- Gemini (twins)
- Pisces (fish)
A leg will extend out from the front of the table. Use the Oculus Perpetua to view the past.
Focus on the circle in the middle of the gate, and attach your cogwheel assembly. Rotate the outer wheel so that the inner wheel with 4 marbles is to the top right. Now rotate each of the inner wheels so the marbles match with the circles behind. After the gate unlocks, push it open and go through.
The gate on the right (showing 6 symbols) is locked, so proceed to the left. Notice the same 6 symbols are on the round bench here. Examine the birdcage, then look closely at the rotating lock. You need to carefully rotate this to move the stars around so they align with the arrows. You need to end up with this pattern:
Pick up the tool with four protrusions from the inside of the door once it opens. Look around to the top right of the birdcage and insert this, then rotate it clockwise. Focus on the top of the birdcage and rotate it until the peacock comes out through the door. Turn the peacock's head to the left so the 4 gems are aligned, then take its tail. Back out and go back to the gate, then close it. Look through the round opening of the gate. You need to rotate the 6 points on this gate so the matching symbols align with those on the gate behind it.
Lift the latch on this gate, but it is still locked. Look back at the stone bench and notice the same symbols again, but in a different order. Look at the gate and rearrange the 6 points to match the stone bench:
Go through the gate and push open the other gate, then continue through. Rotate the ladder here to the left, then climb up and pick up the handle (1/5). Climb back down and head back to the gazebo. Look at the lock at the base of the pot-plant Insert the peacock tail here, then rotate the gear until the lock opens. Turn the handle in the alms box to move the pot-plant to the far left. Head back to the present.
- Top-Left: Concentric squares
- Mid-Left: Concentric circles
- Bottom-Left: Overlapping triangles
- Top-Right: Circle with triangles
- Mid-Right: Square with lines
- Bottom-Right: Overlapping squares
Pick up the wheel with a handle that has fallen to the floor. Combine this with the part of a mechanism you are holding, then rotate it to create a mechanism with a handle. Zoom in on the extended leg of the table twice, then attach your mechanism. Turn it and you will have access to a new area. Head out there now.
Turn around and look just to the left of the stairs heading back to the gazebo - pick up the metal ornamental dome (2/5). Back out and approach the stone bench, examining the tubular leather case. You need to rotate the 3 segments at the top to match the pattern shown at the bottom. Once correct, open the top of the tube and take out the letter. Examine the inner aspect of the lid and slide the catch up, then take the lion head (3/5).
Back out and examine the ornate cabinet just to the left. Focus on the bottom-left corner, and rotate the golden segment until a panel below opens. Take out the special key (4/5). After the next panel opens, also pick up the winged key (5/5). You will now get an achievement for holding 5 items at once HOARDER.
Examine the metal ornamental dome in your inventory and press the button to convert it to a dome handle. Look up at the central part of the cabinet and attach the lion head to the triangle. Slide the 2 wooden panels inwards, and the lion head will drop down. Look down at the segment that has come out, and focus on its right side to find a grooved rod to pick up. Look at the side of the central part of this panel that protrudes even further out. Slide the gold latch upwards, and the panel will fold out. Focus on the 3 holes here, and insert the grooved rod in the middle. Rotate the disc that appears in one of the holes so you can slide the protrusion from the grooved rod down into it. Rotate the other 2 discs. Insert your special key into the grooved rod and slide it down.
Back out and look at the base of the cabinet. Insert your winged key here and rotate it to discover another special key. Go back up to the grooved rod and insert this key, then slide it down. Lift up the lid that partially opens to reveal a silver box. Rotate the blue gem on the side, then open the box and take out some brass letters. Examine these and pull them apart until you have created part of a gear assembly. Return to the gazebo and use the Oculus Perpetua.
Head into the maze, then through the gate on the right. Rotate the ladder to the right, then focus on the bottom of the ladder. Attach your handle here and rotate it counter-clockwise until you automatically remove it again. Climb up the ladder and use your dome handle on the link between the rope and metal ring. Rotate this clockwise until the ring opens and the rope falls free.
Next focus on the crane on the other side of the statue. Rotate the large wheel here until you see the rope hanging above the concrete block - when you are in the correct position, a clamp will stop you from turning any more. Attach your handle now, and turn it counter-clockwise until the rope reaches the ground.
Back out and go over to the concrete block. Drag the metal ring so it is next to the rope around the block, then spin around and turn the dome handle to close the ring again. Climb back up into the crane and rotate the handle clockwise to lift up the concrete block TEMPORAL ARCHITECT.
Enter the gazebo and look at the small table. Pull the big lever towards the table, and the gazebo will rotate. Head towards the large wooden door, then focus on the wooden latch. Look at the small panel just to the left - pull the two bolts to the left, then open this panel. Insert your part of a gear assembly here, then drag it upwards. Now you can slide the main wooden latch to the right TRAINING DAY.
Chapter 3
Milan: Corte Vecchia
Examine the large box, focusing on the side with the golden disc at the top. Examine the golden disc more closely, and drag the loose part to the top. You can now click to remove a serrated band from here - you will see several other parts of the box move after you do this. Back out and examine the 2 opened compartments on the sides to get a folded phoenix head, and a head with a screw. Examine the folded phoenix head in your inventory, and rotate the top to create a phoenix head. Examine the head with a screw in your inventory, and rotate the top until you create the head of a figurine.
Spin around to the back of the large box. Attach your serrated band to the disc here and it will open. The complex mechanism here contains multiple parts - the serrated band around the edge, a color slider across the bottom, and a red button in the middle. Start by taking these actions:
- Set the slider to red, then rotate the serrated band so the red quadrant points left
- Set the slider to green, then rotate the serrated band so the green quadrant points up
- Set the slider to yellow, then rotate the serrated band so the yellow quadrant points right
- Set the slider to blue, then rotate the serrated band so the blue quadrant points down
Now press the red button and the top of the box should open. Examine the bird on the top, and attach your phoenix head. Note the owl symbol on the wings of the phoenix. Examine your notebook to see a sketch of the symbols on the complex mechanism, and in particular note the 3 symbols associated with the red (left) quadrant. Look at the belly of the phoenix and drag the sliders to reveal these symbols:
Examine the second set of wings, and find the symbol that corresponds to the green (top) quadrant. Look at the belly of the phoenix and drag the sliders to reveal these symbols:
Examine the third set of wings, and find the symbol that corresponds to the yellow (right) quadrant. Look at the belly of the phoenix and drag the sliders to reveal these symbols:
Examine the final set of wings, and find the symbol that corresponds to the blue (bottom) quadrant. Look at the belly of the phoenix and drag the sliders to reveal these symbols:
Zoom in on the figurine that is revealed from the opened side of the box. Attach the head from your inventory. Rotate the chest and arm pieces into position. Now you can take the moon key from near the figurine's legs. Back out, then notice the 4 red moons on the top of the box. Insert your moon key into the moon with a lock, then turn the key and open the moon so you can pick up a sphere. Insert this sphere into the open tube just to the right of the moon - the box will rise and open further.
Focus on the 2 golden dragons in the middle section, and rotate their heads. Look at the side of the left dragon and grab the small vial with unknown liquid. Spin around to the side of the right dragon, and put this in the top part of its open section - the liquid will start to flow clockwise. Slide the 2 copper brackets down, then push all 3 red clips out into the copper brackets - the liquid will now flow all the way around and fill 3 containers to the left. Look back between the red clips to see a round cage. Rotate this so you can take out a button with a thorn. Back out and spin around to look at the side of the left dragon again.
Zoom in on the large open compartment and insert the button with a thorn here. Press the button and watch the marble carefully, clicking on the box where it finishes. Repeat this 2 more times without making any mistakes EAGLE EYED. You will now have red, yellow and green marbles. You can also now take the screwdriver.
Back out again and spin around to look at the 3 containers of liquid in the right dragon. Insert the screwdriver at the top and rotate it to open the lids of the containers. Put a marble in each container, then turn the valve at the bottom of each one. Down beneath this section, turn the safety screw on the side of the right dragon and it will come loose. Spin back around to the left dragon and insert the safety screw on the side. Turn it, then drag it down.
After Leonardo heads upstairs, look at the dragon heads and take part of a mechanism from the lower one. Look at the mechanism that rises up, and attach the part you just found. Push this down to see a small statue revealed. Focus on the bottom of this, and push the left gold bracket down so the statue raises its arm. Look at the book in its hand - rotate the latch handle, then drag it to the left and open the lid. Take out the Sagittarius disc.
Back out from the statue and look at the opened left pillar of the main box. Attach the Sagittarius disc, then turn the two dials around the edge until all the holes are lit up. Open the two latches on the right, then slide the middle catch to the right and open the small door. Pick up the brass handle from inside. Take note of the round map and the small island in the middle indicated by the 3 arrow markers.
Back out and look at the other opened pillar of the main box. Insert your brass handle into the disc here, then turn it until the cover opens. Rotate the dial inside until the island you just saw is visible in the map display, then move the guides over it. Once you have done this, the map will disappear. Pick up the wooden brush. Go back to the previous pillar and pull the lever down. Now head back to the statue and push the right gold bracket down. Once the statue raises its other arm, place the wooden brush in its hand.
Find the hilt of a knife in one of the newly opened pillars of the main box. Press the red marble at the top and it will turn green. Take the part of a flute from inside the hilt. Slide down the latch that was behind the part of a flute, then take the small key from just below here.
Go around to the final opened pillar and insert your small key into the lock here. Turn the key, then wait for the knife to fall. Pick up the teardrop-shaped gem. Press the red marble at the top of the hilt, then take the main part of a flute. Focus on the head and attach the teardrop-shaped gem to the front. Go around to the back of the box, down behind the statue, to see a new opening. Combine the two parts of the flute in your inventory, and insert it here. Slide the two holders in from the ends, fold down the panel of stoppers from above the flute, then press the round button beneath it.
Look down to the elephant legs at the bottom of the main box and focus on the copper ring in one of them. Spin this around so you can take the rail from inside. Focus on the front of the box and insert the rail into the missing segment. Slide the large catch to the right, and the doors will open. For this next puzzle, the goal is to turn all of the central pieces to a golden color. As you rotate the outer wheel, the guide will move up and down. You can then use the lever to change the colors of the 2 visible pieces. Start from the top and work your way down until all pieces are golden.
Focus on the top of the elephant's head and slide the red star up, then rotate the gold pointer to the left and then the right to open two caps. Press the 2 buttons. Now that they are unlocked, rotate the 2 red dials to unfold the tusks completely. Now pull out the red ring at the top of the head to unfold the trunk. Look at the top of the trunk and lift up a catch, then pick up the wheel that rolls down. Back out, then look at the left side of the elephant. Insert the wheel into the slot here, then rotate it until it stops. Turn the lever that has come out to the side.
Leonardo will now leave his study and go to bed. Read the letter on the side of the box, then head upstairs to the study. Try to open the door, but it is locked. Back out, then use the Oculus Perpetua.
Approach the door again and open it to go inside. Zoom in on the table where Leonardo is working CHRONOSPY. Back out, and you will automatically leave the study.
After your confrontation, read the letter in the cupboard SAILOR'S GIFT.
Chapter 4
Florence: Badia Florentia
Pick up the handle from the floor near the chest. Now examine the front of the chest. Twist the emblem on the right, then pick up the wooden disc that rolls out. Examine this in your inventory - spin the central ring, then twist the halves to form a wooden cogwheel. Turn around and pick up the wooden figure of Leonardo from on top of a horizontal beam.
Back out and turn right to see a rectangular wooden board against the wall. Insert your handle into the small hole just below and to the right of this, then turn it. Insert the wooden cogwheel into the space, then keep turning the handle to open some shutters to the left. Now you have to rotate the gears on the left and right sides to gradually raise both bars up to the very top. Pull open the drawer and take out the folding key from inside.
Return to the chest and look at the lock on the front. Examine the folding key in your inventory and move the different parts so that the key matches the lock. Insert the key into the lock and turn it, then open the chest. Focus on the top right of the chest - turn both rotating latches on the top so you can pull out the metal handle to the side. Go back to the drawer where you found the folding key. Insert the metal handle here, then pull it down. Now you can take a note, as well as the Oculus Perpetua. Use it to go to the past.
Approach the 3 shelves. Rotate the stand on the lowest shelf so the arrows line up, and the shelf will fold in half. Take the metal loop from the middle. Look up at the bottom of the middle shelf and insert the metal loop in the right slot. Pull the metal loop down and slide the other two metal brackets to the side until this shelf also folds in half. Focus on the left support for the top shelf and slide it to the left so the top shelf rotates. Now you can pull open a hidden door.
Go through and look at the control box on the right wall. There is an achievement for not using the Oculus Perpetua further to solve this puzzle - move the top marker to the very top position, then the bottom marker to the left position, then the middle marker to the middle. Pull the lever on the right INTUITIVE ENGINEER.
You will be in a new area with a central table and surrounding pillars. Use the Oculus Perpetua again.
Look at the glowing numbers on each of the 6 pillars, and you will sketch them all in your book - this is a missable sketch (2/3)
Focus on the middle of the table, and drag the figure of Leonardo here. Read the scroll that appears, then back out and look at the building on another part of the table. Turn the ring at the top so the smaller blocks area offset from the building towers. If you press the button on the very top, two of these smaller blocks will then switch positions. Your goal is to position 4 smaller blocks over the 4 towers so they have matching symbols.
Read the new scroll, then focus on the back of the new building. You need to rearrange the blue pieces to fit in with the green pieces, so that all adjacent letters are matching:
Rotate the spire on the top of the church, then open the dome and take the brass collapsible frame. Read the new scroll, then focus on the yellow item near base of the new tower. Pick up the burnished brass object. Next focus on the side of the other new building. Attach the burnished brass object, then lift it up to open the side of the building. Zoom in on the candle, then drag the flint mechanism to the right 3 times to light the candle.
A small holder will rise up from this building. Unfold the brass collapsible frame in your inventory, then put the wheel in the holder. After the white cloth unfolds, focus back on the front of the building with the spinning wheel. Pick up the dirty lens and the star-shaped tool from here - a beam of yellow light will now be visible.
Back out and spin around the table to find the one side that is different, then zoom in on this. Turn the leaves so they are pointing up. Slide the yellow mechanism to the right, then rotate the leaves again so they are pointing out to the sides. Pull open the central compartment to reveal a rotating sander. Put your dirty lens here, then pull the top part of the device out. Now pick up the polished lens. Put this back where you first got the dirty lens - now you will see a series of 4 shapes projected on the white cloth, and a series of matching objects in the tower above. Press these objects in the same order they are displayed on the cloth:
- Octahedron (8 triangles)
- Dodecahedron (12 pentagons)
- Icosatetrahedron (24 triangles, non-convex)
- Icosahedron (20 triangles)
Read the new scroll, then back out and pick up the ornate case next to the scroll. Everything on the table will now disappear. There are two tall cabinets on the far wall of the room. Focus on the right cabinet, and adjust your folding key to match the lock, then insert the key and turn it. Pull open the doors. Pull the two handles downwards, and stairs to the lower floor will appear.
Examine the left side of the top of the chest. Insert your star-shaped tool and turn it , then take the metal handle. Go back upstairs and focus on the left tall cabinet. Adjust the folding key to match this lock, then insert the key and turn it. Pull open the doors. In your inventory, combine the metal handle with the ornate case, them push the two objects together. Insert this into the space you have found in the left cabinet, and you will have the chance to enter a 4-digit number. This number is based on the other numbers you have seen through the Oculus Perpetua. Each number in the series is the previous number times 2 plus 1: 0507, 1015, 2031, 4063, 8127. Enter the missing number (4063).
Go up the new stairs to see a position to insert something on the right wall. Look on the left balustrade and press the wooden cap, and take the wooden rose. Go back downstairs and insert this onto the one wooden panel around the edge of the room that is missing one. Grab the lever that is revealed. Go back upstairs and insert the lever on the right wall, then pull it down. Grab the ropes that are now dangling nearby, and you will end up outside in a courtyard. Use your Oculus Perpetua.
Look at the drain in the middle of the courtyard, then follow the mechanism over to a pedestal with a pot plant. Turn the left and right roses to left up the side parts of the mechanism, then rotate the central rose.
Grab the rusty handle from the opened drain. Now go over to the large covered well. Slide the two golden latches on the top to reveal a cross-shaped hole on the front. Insert the rusty handle here, then rotate it anti-clockwise to reveal a puzzle. Use the Oculus Perpetua again to reveal some symbols and numbers.
Move the red symbols into the middle row so they match up with the blue symbols above. Once they are aligned, slide them up in the order of the numbers below.
The cover of the well will now open. Rotate around to the right side of the well and focus on a rose with a yellow marker. Spin this so it matches the adjacent yellow marker. Pick up the part of a mechanism that is revealed. Go back to the pot plant and pick up the wing nut hidden within it. Combine this with the part of a mechanism in your inventory, then rotate it to create a winch wheel. Take this back to the right side of the well and attach this to the gears. Rotate the winch wheel to bring up a basket from the bottom of the well. Take the stone ornament from the basket.
Back out, then go to the pedestal with the pyramid on top of it. Insert the stone ornament on the front of the pedestal. Pick up the mask that is revealed. Go over to the final pedestal with the statue and put the mask on its face. Pull the lever within the pedestal, then grab the ornate capsule. Put this on top of the pedestal with the opened pyramid. Use the Oculus Perpetua yet again.
Rotate the segments so the blue numbers add up to the Roman numerals below:
- IV: 1, 1, 1, 1
- V: 1, 1, 1, 2
- VI: 1, 1, 2, 2
- IX: 3, 1, 2, 3
- X: 1, 3, 3, 3
- XI: 4, 2, 4, 1
Open the capsule and take out the letter BACK TO THE FUTURE.
Chapter 5
Turin: Sacra di San Michele
Approach the door, then pick up and release the knocker twice. Inside, turn around and go to the back of the room, then turn left to face the darkest corner. Wait here for 60 seconds, and a ghost will appear GENIUS LOCI.
Now go back to the front of the room. Head into a nave to the right of the altar and examine the monstrance on the table. Slide the ruby downwards, then open the small compartment and take out the skull. Look up to the top of the monstrance, where there are 2 small angels. Rotate the angel on the left to the right 540 degrees (so it ends up facing away from you). Rotate the angel on the right to the right 180 degrees (so it also ends up facing away from you). This will result in the central part of the monstrance opening. There is an achievement for doing this without using the Oculus Perpetua BLIND FAITH.
Take the embossed disc. Back out and go to the nave to the left of the altar. Look at the painting within the 3 arches, and insert your embossed disc into the shield in the left painting. Take the part of the shield that is revealed.
Back out twice and turn left, then head towards a painting over a small ornate box - the painting reads CEDO NULLI. Examine the small ornate box, and insert the skull into the top so you can open the lid. Now you need to adjust the switches inside so that the two gold latches slide outwards. Take out the blue gem.
Return to the front of the room and go to the left niche, examining the monstrance on this side. Rotate the lower portion with the blue gems until you find an empty slot, then insert your blue gem here and the top section will rise a small amount. Now you need to rotate the lower portion in a specific sequence to raise it completely - right, left, left, right, left, right. Take the small shield with arms from the top section once it opens. Attach this to the back of the part of the shield in your inventory, then fold down the arms to create a completed shield.
Back out, then approach the altar and go around the back. Focus on the middle circle here, and rotate it until you see 4 small holes. Attach your shield here to reveal a series of 9 adjustable symbols. Next you need to walk around the entire area to locate 8 stone caskets. Examine each of these to locate a series of 8 glyphs with associated letters - this creates the final missable sketch (3/3). You can now view all of the glyphs and letters in your sketchbook. Go back to the altar and spell out CEDO NULLI. Take the strangely shaped key and the wooden ornament.
Back out from the altar to stand in the middle of the large area and turn left. Step forward and approach the closed wooden cabinet. Insert the wooden ornament into the slot beneath the arched windows on the cabinet, and they will be replaced. Look at the 3 symbols on the left and work out what image would be created by summing all of the yellow lines. Drag the wooden ornament to the left, then scroll through the possibilities to find the matching one. Repeat this with the lines and shapes on the right side. Once both symbols are correct, return the wooden ornament to the middle position, and the symbol above the arched windows will change. Insert your strangely shaped key here. Rotate the key, then pull the cabinet forwards to reveal some stairs down.
Go down to another door. Slide the left gold latch up and the right gold latch down. Now rotate both catches and push open the door. In here is the mechanism for an elevator. Take the metal wheel with a handle from the left wall. Go through the stone passage and open the window. After pulling it open, look at the back of the handle and slide the top and bottom parts down, then pick up the fallen window crank.
Back out and turn left, then go down the spiral staircase into a storeroom. Pick up the wooden handle from the stool. Turn around and examine the candlestick on the wall to the right of the door. Twist this and pull it open, then take out the heavy brass component from behind it. Add this to your metal wheel with a handle. Slide the moving components to the top and bottom to create a completed winch wheel.
Head back up the spiral staircase and examine the left part of the elevator mechanism. Focus on the outlined red shape, then examine the winch wheel in your inventory. Adjust the central component so the shape matches, then attach this to the mechanism ADVANCED CRAFTSMAN.
Turn to the right and drag the large lever to the right, then wait for the elevator to appear. Get on the elevator and take the tool with two levers from the right. Examine this in your inventory - slide the two latches up, then open the arms to create a winch mechanism part. Flip the lever on the elevator to the left, then get off it again. Drag the large lever to the left, then turn the winch wheel to raise the elevator up to the top position again.
Turn around and look at the low bench along the wall. There is a small slot in one of the vertical columns, where you can insert the window crank. Turn this, then slide the column to the side. Insert your wooden handle here and pull it down, then pick up the rod with a ring.
Go back down the spiral staircase and attach your winch mechanism part to the square peg on the outside of the winch here. Turn this to bring out a large barrel, then examine the barrel. You need to rotate the copper band at the top so you can slide each of the four metal bands up into it. Once completed, you will see a second puzzle. Here you need to move the arrows around so each column has the same number of up and down arrows. This is one solution:
Attach the hook to the top of the barrel. Back out, then focus on the mechanism up to the left. Use your rod with a ring here, then pull it down to open a trapdoor above. Go up the spiral staircase and move the large lever to the middle position. Turn the winch wheel until the barrel and the elevator both come to a stop. Get in the elevator and pull the lever here to the right - you will ride the elevator up to a new area.
Look at the octagonal picture on the wall opposite the desk. Drag the red marker until it gets blocked by a painting. Turn around and drag the painting on the wall down (also noting the words CUSTODIAS HIC HOSTIUM on the painting). Drag the red marker until it gets blocked by the painting again, then lift the painting back up. While you are here, look at the two golden circles on the front of the desk - rotate the left one so the marker points up to the left, and rotate the right one so the marker points up to the right. Now you can go back and drag the red marker as far as you can - it should pass through both wooden discs once. Return to the desk and rotate the left circle so the marker is up to the right, and the right circle's marker is down to the right. Drag the red marker all the way to the end, and take out the metal component that becomes available.
Examine the perfume container on the desk, and attach your metal component to the top so that it opens. Back out for now and examine the small metal plate on the front of the desk. Use your Oculus Perpetua.
When you handle the lever on the left, this rotates one of the discs on the right either up or down (depending on the way you move the handle). You need to get all 4 discs aligned so they depress all 4 catches beneath the discs at the same time. You can then take the essence of tulip after it is pushed upwards.
Return to the octagonal picture and notice the glyph at the bottom next to the symbol of a tulip. Go to the perfume container and use the essence of tulip on the matching glyph. Once it is in place, take the strange key. Look behind the desk and pick up a boot with a high sole. Take the red cap off the back of the chair, then rotate the top of the chair until it comes off as a carved wooden stud. Go over to the tall bureau against the far wall, where you can see a golden dome. Insert your strange key in the slot beneath this, then pull it down to open the dome. In this puzzle you must light up a complete hemisphere of the planet in each quadrant - as you drag the marker around the circle, you can fix the amount of light on a planet by sliding the corresponding marker in from the edge. Once complete, take the essence of anise from the middle.
Visit the octagonal picture and find the associated glyph at the bottom left. Go to the perfume container and use the essence of anise on the matching glyph. Once it is in place, pull out the flower ornament. Examine the boot in your inventory and slide the sole forward, then pull the back down and take out the metal flower leaf. Attach this to the flower ornament, then pull both leaves outwards to create a completed mechanism with flower motif.
Go back to the tall bureau and focus on the left side. Rotate the right symbol here until it locks in place, then lift up the cover. Drag the 4 arrow pieces outwards. Insert the carved wooden stud in the middle and twist it down. Keep turn it to reveal some books, then take the left book, which is a herbarium.
Look at the far side of the top of the desk and insert the mechanism with flower motif. Slide the wooden panels to the side. Insert the herbarium between the golden panels to reveal a marble puzzle. The goal here is to get 3 marbles to pass from the top to the bottom without falling in any holes along the way, and you can guide the marbles to the left or right by dragging the arrow at the bottom right. Release each marble using the spring mechanism on the left. There is an achievement for solving this with just 3 marbles ACTIVE READER. Once done, take the essence of sage and a drawer handle.
View the octagonal picture and find the glyph that goes with sage at the top left. Go to the perfume container and use the essence of safe with the matching glyph. Rotate around to the side of the desk to find 2 small holes, and attach the drawer handle here. Pull the handle down to reveal 3 rotating plaques. Change them to say CUSTODIAS HIC HOSTIUM, then pick up the essence of mint. Find the glyph at the top right of the octagonal picture. Insert the essence of mint at the matching glyph of the perfume container.
Look at the golden semicircle behind the book on the desk. Slide the right catch to the far side. Drag the left segment to the far right, then slide the right catch to the near side. Pick up the essence of rose from the slide. Drag the segments to the far left and take the star ornament. Find the rose glyph at the top of the octagonal picture, then insert the essence of rose at the matching glyph of the perfume container.
Back out and look at the dark bookcase opposite. Attach the star ornament to the bottom right. Slide the loose piece of wood down and take out the essence of spice. Look for the associated glyph at the bottom right of the octagonal picture. Put the essence of spice next to the matching glyph in the perfume container. Now that the container is full, slide the switch down on its side. Take out the lid of the container, which turns out to be a straight key.
Back out twice and look at the large red drape. Insert your straight key into the small golden lantern in front of it. Turn the key and open the back corner. Slide the small catch in the edge next to the opened part. Fold in the two clasps down lower, then back out and pick up the winged nut that has fallen down. Go back up to the opening again and rotate the exposed wheel until a mechanism folds up from below the lantern. Focus on the middle of this mechanism and attach the winged nut, then rotate it until the lantern is extinguished. Turn the straight key again, then open the lid fully. This will reveal 5 switches - move them in these directions: right, left, right, left, left. This will reveal another switch, which you should pull down.
Climb up the new steps. Pull the door handle down, then push the door open and go through SCRIPTORIUM SNEAK.
Chapter 6
Turin: Secret Library
Look down to the left and rotate one of the balcony supports so you can take out a metal rod. Turn around to the right and slide forward a wooden piece on top of the balcony, but there is nothing there. Use the Oculus Perpetua to view the past.
Turn right and slide forward the wooden piece, then take the metal grate. Attach the metal rod to this in your inventory, then rotate the metal rod to the right to create a metal grate with lever. Turn back to the left and look up, then focus on the hole in the wooden frame. Insert your metal grate with lever here. Pull the lever down and you will swing across to the opposite building.
Turn right and go up the wooden steps. Turn right again and focus on the metal clamps against the wall. Pull these clamps apart so you can take out a metal triangle. Back out and turn left. Go down the stairs here, then take the lever from the wall on the right. Turn around and walk forward, then go up the stairs at the other end. Examine the large wooden doors on the right and notice the 5 depressions in the top of the central locking mechanism. Now look at the metal triangle in your inventory. Slide the copper brackets on the back to rotate the 4 top parts so the rods sticking out match the holes in the locking mechanism. Now insert the metal triangle here. Pull the wooden lever up, then pull both wooden levers to the sides.
The doors will open. Examine the sun on the left side, then follow these steps:
- Pull the left ray outwards.
- Drag the top-left ray down.
- Drag the bottom-left ray up.
- Pull the top ray upwards.
- Pull the bottom ray downwards.
- Drag the bottom-right ray down.
- Pull the right ray outwards.
There is an achievement for not using the Oculus Perpetua further to solve this puzzle BLINDED BY THE LIGHT. Take out the wheel. Continue down the next stairs and take a cross-shaped lever part from the wall. Turn around and walk forward once, then look down to the left to see a hole in the top of a round wooden mechanism. Insert your lever here. Back out, then go up the nearest stairs (where you first came in to this building).
To the left of the diamond-shaped doors, look at the red ring, then attach your wheel here and turn it to reveal a large mirror. Take the small metal component from next to the wheel. Examine the cross-shaped lever part in your inventory and add the small metal component, then twist it upwards to complete the cross-shaped lever. Focus on the bottom of the mirror, then attach the cross-shaped lever here. Pull the lever forward to split the large mirror into two halves.
Look out towards the room, go down the left stairs and forward once. Pull the lever to the right, and the light beam will be reflected across to a green panel. Go around to this and examine it to see a layout of the whole room. Look at the wooden panel above the picture and slide the small right window to the right, then pull the handle behind it - you will catch a lens that falls down.
Go back to the split mirror and place your lens in the stand just to the right of it. Look out towards the room, go down the left stairs and forward once. Pull the lever to the right again, and the second light beam will be reflected across the room. Head back up to the sun door and find two levers here that control other mirrors. Looking out towards the room, turn the left mirror to the far right, then turn the right mirror to the far left. This light beam will now light up another green panel. Go around to this and twist the screws at the top-left and top-right, and a round device will fold down.
Examine the round device. You need to rotate the rings so they all have openings at the top. The 4 left golden sliders should all be on the inner circle, and the 3 right golden sliders on the second ring. Once they are there, rotate the rings and you will take the steering wheel.
Head up to the levers near the sun door. Attach your steering wheel to the side of the left controls. Turn the wheel to move the left mirror as far away as possible, keeping the left mirror turned to the right. Go to the right controls and keep the right mirror turned to the left, but use the wheel to move it as far away as possible. Head down the right steps and along the corridor. Pull the lever to the left, to light up the next green panel. Turn around and go here. Lift the horizontal bar up, then tilt the vertical bar to the left and it will fall away. Take out the eight-sided board.
Turn right and go along the corridor. Near the slanted hatch at the end, turn left and look at the wall panel with 3 triangular depressions. Examine the eight-sided board in your inventory and view its back. You need to move the triangles around so they are over the underlying metal panels. Now attach it to the wall over the triangular depressions. On the next puzzle you need to rotate the cubes so the 4 cubes with arrows are all visible and pointing out towards the corners MASTER CRAFTSMAN.
A new sunflower sensor will rise up in the corner of the room - you must direct light beams at its front and side at the same time. Go back along the corridor and pull the lever left - the sliding mirror should be on the right side and facing towards you. Go up to the sun door for the other two mirror controls. Turn the left mirror to the left and bring it back as close as possible. Keep the right mirror as far away as possible, but turn it to the right.
Now head down the hatch. At the bottom, look down to the left to find a weight. Return to the present.
Focus on the closed metal gate. You need to rotate the 4 groups of symbols so adjacent symbols are matching. Start by making sure the top-left group has the diamond to the left, then work from there. Push open the gate when you are done, then go through to be stopped by a closed door. Turn the handle to open a slot beneath, then take out a hook with a screw. Attach this to the top of your weight, then spin it to create a weight with hook. Back out and look up to the left, then attach this to the chain.
Step forward again and look at the complex panel with 4 discs to the right of the tall pillar. You need to rotate the discs to free up the central square:
- Move the sliders down and left
- Rotate the top-right disc (finished)
- Move the sliders up and right
- Rotate the bottom-left disc
- Move the sliders down
- Rotate the top-left disc (finished)
- Move the sliders up
- Rotate the bottom-left disc (finished)
- Move the sliders left
- Rotate the bottom-right disc (finished)
Now you can take a short key. Back out and look at the pillar to the left. Insert your short key and turn it. Make sure the large lever at the top is to the left, then turn the spoked wheel. Look near the bottom of the left door and drag the handles outwards so you see an object fall to the ground. Turn the spoked wheel again, then pick up the handle with eight-pointed section from the ground. Next look at the right door and use your Oculus Perpetua.
Drag the top and bottom horizontal bars to the right, and the middle horizontal bars to the left. Now lift up the main mechanism, and an object will fall to the ground.
Go back to the pillar. Move the large lever at the top to the right. Turn the spoked wheel. Pick up the handle with four-pointed section from the ground. Walk forward again until you reach the next metal gate. Insert the two handles here. This time, you need to rotate the 8 groups of symbols so adjacent symbols are matching, and the groups of 4 can also be rotated. Start by making sure the top-left group has the diamond to the left, the candelabra to the bottom and the fish to the top. Also make sure the top-right group has the diamond to the bottom, the candelabra to the left and the fish to the top. Push open the gate when you are done, then go through.
Examine the wooden bench here. Look at the far knob on the top and twist it, then fold it back. Take out the small key. Back out and look at the near side of the bench. Slide the diamond catch to the left, then insert your key and drag it to the right. Turn the wheel that appears, so you can take another key. Now head down the stairs and insert this into the door lock. Turn the key, then the handle, and pull open the door. Go through to the next room.
Look at the balustrade to the left to see 1 blue mark. Look at the left leg of the desk to see 2 yellow marks. Back out, then look at the lectern on the right to see 3 green marks. Look at the vases on the shelves to the right and pick up a metal ornament from between them. Back out and examine the small cabinet in the left corner of the room. Attach the metal ornament here, then use your Oculus Perpetua.
Drag the left ornament up, and the right ornament down.
After the small door opens, take the circular ornament. Back out and examine the panel beneath the books in the bookshelf on the right. Attach the circular ornament here to see some colored discs. Based on the marks you have seen, enter this code: blue, yellow, green. This section will slide up, revealing another puzzle behind it. Here you need to move some horizontal sliding pieces into position so that when you turn the wheel on the left all 4 beams are lifted. Position them as follows:
- Left slider joining middle slot of 1st beam and middle slot of 2nd beam
- Middle slider joining bottom slot of 2nd beam and bottom slot of 3rd beam
- Right slider joining middle slot of 3rd beam and middle slot of 4th beam
Now turn the wheel to raise all the beams. Slide the revealed bar to the right and the door will open. Push the door further open, then go through to the library. Use your Oculus Perpetua to view the past.
Step forward and steal the key from the red captain TIME THIEF.
At this point if you collected all 3 missable sketches, you will have completed your sketchbook ATTENTIVE SCRIBE. Step forward to the bookcase straight ahead. Look down and rotate the ornament surrounded by scratches, then insert your key into the keyhole that is revealed. Turn the key, then step forward and read the book GIFTED LIBRARIAN.
There are additional achievements depending on how quickly you finished the game:
- Under 10 hours WALKER
- Under 7 hours RUNNER
- Under 4 hours SPRINTER
