Encodya is a third-person adventure game set in the world of Neo-Berlin, a massive city ruled by greedy heartless corporations. You play as Tina, a 9-year-old orphan living with SAM, your friendly robot guardian. This walkthrough includes all steps for the hard version of the game. There are 16 Steam Achievements, all documented in the walkthrough below.

Prologue

Shelter

Pick up the empty jar, then go left and down to the street level. Talk to Eku about everything. Search the trash to the right to get some rotten sushi and a broken floppy. Also pick up the antenna piece from the left. Push the rotten sushi into the empty jar, then climb back up the rooftop. Use the stinky jar on the hole in the wall here, and you will end up with a cockroach in a jar. Now you can safely search the hole in the wall to get a fly bus ticket TRAVELER.

Historical Quarter

You can now use your map to travel to the Historical Quarter.

Part 1: Daily Survival

Historical Quarter

Talk to the electrician (Blixy), then enter the diner on the right. Pick up Kurnia's tape from the middle table.

Crossroad

Pick up the stick from the ground in front of the table. Use SAM to shake the vending machine, and you will get a Vintage Me! Device. Switch back to Tina and use this in your inventory to find a secret (1/10). Use it again to change back to high resolution. Enter the ramen shop and talk to the chef (Chef Hayao) - you will receive a Bavarian marinated fish.

Go back outside, then enter the electronics shop to the left. Try to talk to the clerk (Dick Bates), then switch to SAM and talk to him again. Take a 16MB RAM from the old RAM banks on the shelves to the right. Switch back to Tina and take a 5 1/4 floppy disk from the left of the desk. Leave the shop again and head along the bright alley on the left.

Pick up the capacitor from the ground on the left. Return to the crossroad, then go down towards the bus stop. Go left and use SAM to speak to the nasty robot. Speak to him several times (until you realize you need a RAM adapter). Next head left to the long road. Try to use the elevator panel (next to the "Terrasse" sign). Now talk to the kid (Otomo) to the left, until you receive a holographic prism.

Historical Quarter

Combine the antenna piece and stick to create a long stick. Use this on Blixy to get the electrician keys. Now use the holographic prism on the old gate in the distance to see the word BLUE.

Shelter

Use your electrician keys on the panel box, then take a fuse from inside. Ask Eku about a RAM adapter, then give him the capacitor.

Crossroad

Use the holographic prism on the big signboard over the ramen shop to see the word SKY.

Historical Quarter

Try to enter the abandoned store on the left. Put your fuse in the fusebox just to the left, then go inside. Pick up the pliers and the pair of socks from the ground. Head back outside, then enter the diner alley on the right. Use your pliers on the wire. Use your Bavarian marinated fish on the robotic cat, then search the leftovers to get some cyber lasagna.

Crossroad

Go down to the bus stop, then left to the long road. Talk to Otomo to get an elevator token. Use this on the elevator panel. Up on the bridge, walk slightly to the right and press the red hidden button to find the next secret (2/10). Continue right to reach the terrace. Take the waterproof flag, then return to the bridge and down in the elevator. Continue right to the bus stop. Have SAM give the RAM adapter to the nasty robot - you will end up with some robot oil.

Shelter

Climb back up to the rooftop. Pick up the copper wire, and combine this with your long stick. Use this on the power box here to electrify it, then go left and get SAM to use your long electrified stick on the watching drone. Now have SAM talk to the watching drone. In the following conversation, select these options:

  • If they didn't come to book us for loitering, but for you...
  • Is your memory intact? Can you remember everything since you were built?
  • Can you go over them from the beginning, deep-scanning everything? NEO BERLIN BY NIGHT

You can now use your map to travel to Downtown.

Part 2: Investigating the Cyber Slum

Downtown

Talk to the redhead twins (Aga and Esa) on the left, then head along the street on the right to Bureaucracy Street. Pick up the phone book from the ground, then enter the registry office. Talk to the Roboceptionist. Use the missing persons database on the left - search by date and select 2050-2059. Keep searching to the right until you automatically give up.

Crossroad

Talk to the Traffic Bot until you get an adult authorization. Enter the electronics shop on the left. Get SAM to talk to Dick Bates about everything, and you will get a recovery pill. Use this to remember a name. Leave the shop and enter the dark alley on the right. Pick up the old mug and canned food from the ground. Use your 5 1/4 floppy disk on the green dot near a slot at the bottom of a pipe on the back wall to find another secret (3/10) LUCKY FINDER.

Go back out to the crossroad and enter the ramen shop. Talk to the moustache man (Rosco Spencer) about everything. Use your old mug on the greasy substance on the right table. Examine this in your inventory with SAM for the next secret (4/10).

Historical Quarter

Enter the diner on the right. Talk to Gia, then talk to Maisy in the tube on the right.

Downtown

Talk to Esa and Aga about Maisy, and say you will owe them one if they help. Head along Bureaucracy Street and into the registry office. Use the missing persons database on the left - search by name and enter Ren Herzog, then print out a ticket. Return outside and back to Zeit Square, then head down Business Street. Talk to Esa and Aga again, then give them your greasy substance.

Historical Quarter

Head down to the long road and talk to Maisy to end up with a signed authorization.

Crossroad

Talk to the Traffic Bot to get a police permission. Head to the bright alley on the left. Talk to the old lady, and she will give you a Fatemancer Flyer.

Downtown

Go along Bureaucracy Street and into the registry office. Talk to the Roboceptionist, then go along the corridor to the right. Continue to the archive and use the archive terminal. Enter the name Ren Herzog, then find him in the list and print the file.

Residential Area

Talk to the android (Gia-Droid) on the bridge with SAM. Enter the flats on the left, and climb the stairs up to floor 04. Head right and pick up the old music player on the ground between C04-4 and C04-5.

Historical Quarter

Enter the diner on the right. Get SAM to use the old music player on the mixed, then quickly have Tina steal Gia's bracelet.

Residential Area

Have SAM give the DNA bracelet to the android.

Historical Quarter

Enter the diner again and take the online transmitter from Gia's table.

Residential Area

Enter the flats and use the intercom next to random doors until you find an old lady. Select these options:

  • You won the lottery!
  • It's Christmas Eve today!

Head inside and talk to Hilde, then combine the online transmitter and signal disturber in your inventory.

Downtown

Head along Business Street and enter the Corp lobby. Use your online disturber on the Corp guard, then enter the elevator. Go along the corridor into the corporation office. Use the Corp computer. Search the "Past Employee Records", then select "2054", "R" and "Ren Herzog". Quit from the computer.

Residential Area

Enter the flats and return to Hilde's apartment. Talk to her about your dad's friend.

Slum

Talk to the old man (Frank) and you will receive an Emosphere. Talk to the clerk (Valentina). Use the Emosphere on Valentina, then talk to her again. Go along Asian alley to the left, then enter the abandoned hotel. Go right and up to the 2nd floor. Pick up the empty spray can from next to room 203. Go back outside and try to take the red spray can next to the artist on the right, then swap it for your empty one. Use the public phone here to dial the number on the Fatemancer Flyer (791-904-015) for a secret (5/10) TREASURE SEEKER. Now use your phone book and look up the number for Emmanual Albert Murnau (EAM, based on Valentina's information). Use the public phone to dial his number (144-852-976).

Return left and talk to Valentina again, then go right to the clubs alley. Go just to the right of the club, and along the narrow way. Pick up the Rocket Soda voucher.

Crossroad

Enter the ramen shop and talk to Rosco Spencer, who wants you to deface 5 posters for him. Use the Emosphere on Chef Hayao, then talk to him. Go back outside and talk to the cyber junkie (Joe) on the left near the bright alley. Now enter the dark alley on the right. Use the Rocket Soda voucher on the Rocket Soda dispenser. While you are here, use your red spray can on the Rumpf poster (1/5).

Shelter

Use your red spray can on the Rumpf poster (2/5).

Residential Area

Use your red spray can on the Rumpf poster (3/5).

Slum

Use your red spray can on the Rumpf poster (4/5). Head right to the clubs alley, then along the narrow way. Use your red spray can on the Rumpf poster (5/5).

Crossroad

Give your Rocket Soda bottle to Joe, in exchange for a father & son photo. Enter the ramen shop and give this to Chef Hayao. Next talk to Rosco Spencer again and he will give you a biometric cheater.

Slum

Go to the clubs alley, along the narrow way, and right towards Smirk's. Approach the bar and talk to the robust man with these options:

  • Do you know anyone called "Joseph"?
  • I need to speak to him! He knows about my dad. He was h is best friend...
  • You know about the code in SAM...? What is it for?

After receiving the pendant, go back out to the clubs alley. Offer Joseph's pendant to the bouncer, then enter the club for the next secret (6/10). Leave the club and return left to the black market. Talk to Frank about the pendant to get a hotel code. Enter the Asian alley and then the abandoned hotel. Go right and up to the 3rd floor. Head right to the 3rd door and use the keypad, then enter the room. Talk to Chip to get a note and a floppy.

Crossroad

Enter the electronics shop on the left. Get SAM to talk to Dick Bates about everything

Slum

Go to the clubs alley, along the narrow way, and right towards Smirk's. Approach the bar and talk to the cool guy (Roger). Switch to SAM and talk to him again until you receive his Gin&Neon tonic. Switch back to Tina and talk to the bartender to get a hacked remote.

Downtown

Use your hacked remote on the parked car. Open the car and you will take out the car battery. Head along Business Street and enter the Corp lobby. Use the elevator, then go along the corridor into the corporation office. Use Chip's floppy on the corp computer. Search the "Past Archive", then select "2054" and "Cyber Octopuses Development" CYBER OCTOPUSES. Go back, then select "Alternate Cyberspace" and download the file. Quit from the computer. Return to the corridor and down in the elevator. Wait here in the lobby for 15 minutes to get another secret (7/10) TREASURE HUNTER.

Crossroad

Enter the electronics shop on the left. Use SAM to give the Gin&Neon tonic to Dick Bates, and you will receive a model SAM transistor.

Slum

Enter the Asian alley and then the abandoned hotel. Go right and up to the 3rd floor. Head right and go through the 3rd door again. Talk to Chip and you will enter cyberspace JOURNEY TO ENCODYA. Head to the right.

Part 3: Journey to Encodya

Arrival Point

Pick up the flat stone. Continue right, then go forward to find the base of a very large tree. Have SAM examine the broken lift and Tina will get a list to repair the lift. Now go back and then left 3 times. Get SAM to open the crate here, then search it to get a ladle and a dust blower. Continue left and forward. Use SAM to talk to the small biped bot; if you repair the pipe, it will give you its piston.

While you are here, head along a secret path between the trees behind the crate to find the next secret (8/10). Return to the previous area, then go back and left. Turn on the hydraulic press, then have SAM use the flat stone on the hydraulic press to get a sharp stone.

Go right 5 times, then use your ladle on the eerie plant to get some super sticky resin. Go right again and get SAM to use the sharp stone on the vine. Still with SAM, pull the junction pipe 3 times. Go left 5 times and forward, and have SAM talk to the small biped bot again. Pick up the biped bot using SAM. Go back once.

Pull the lever on the tree, then use the super sticky resin on the weird bot that drops down. Pull the lever again, and it will break off. Head right 3 times and use the biped bot on the transport pipe to get a small piston. Continue right and forward, and have SAM repair the broken lift. Go up and pick up the dry weed. Use the panorama FOREST PANORAMA. You can now use your map to travel again.

Cave

Use SAM to pull the vending machine, then pull the branch. Pick up the shiny token and the slingshot.

Cubic Stone

Pick up the crowbar. Try to use the token, then insert your shiny token. Talk to the cubic stone about your mission.

Clearing Access

Use SAM to grab the wire hanging from the trees, then use SAM to talk to the mutadroid, but you need to learn a password before you can pass.

Futuristic Building

Pick up the wooden stick from the ground.

Pond

Pick up the bunch of pebbles and the round flint stone.

Cave

Head right into the cave and pick up the square flint stone. Try to use the mechanism. Take the rusty key from the right.

Arrival Point

Go left 3 times and use the crowbar on the hatch. Search the hatch to get a baseball set. Walk right and use the slingshot on the weird bot, then pick up the copper horn (you will just take the mouthpiece). Go forward and use the rusty key on the crate. Search the crate to find a hook and a shovel blade.

Futuristic Building

Combine the round flint stone and square flint stone to create fire stones. Put the dry weed into the fireplace on the right side of the building. Next use the fire stones on the fireplace, then go and pick up the fire cog that falls to the ground.

Arrival Point

Go right twice and forward, then go up in the lift. Use your mouthpiece on the horn to the right, then use the horn. Pick up the air cog that falls to the ground.

Pond

Combine the wooden stick and wire in your inventory, then add the hook to create a fishing rod. Use this on the pond to get the water cog.

Cave

Head right into the cave. Combine the bat and shovel blade to create a shovel, then use this on the X on the ground. Pick up the earth cog. Use all 4 of your cogs on the mechanism, then use your mechanism.

Cubic Stone

Talk to the cubic stone to receive a password.

Clearing Access

Talk to the mutadroid and give it the password, then approach the clearing THE LOST TANKER.

Part 4: Into Steel Guts

Approach the oil tanker, then go right twice. Take the yellow note from just left of the control box - it says "The password is Tina's birthyear". Look at SAM for a comment that you have had him (SAM-53) since you were born. Return left twice and head to the clearing. Use the console and enter the password 2053. You will now see this message, with the first part of each line random for each game:

  • (Blue one three) in the sky could be!
  • (Red three two) you can join it too!

Head to the ship and right twice again. Examine the control box and set the controls based on the second line of the message (for the example above, turn on only the red button, and turn on dials 3 and 2). Return left twice and have SAM pull the lever to lower the anchor. Go to the control box and set the controls based on the first line of the message (for the example above, turn on only the blue button, and turn on dials 1 and 3). Return left twice and have SAM pull the lever again - you will automatically climb on for the ride up.

Talk to Strawbot and answer his 5 questions as follows:

  1. My teddy
  2. SAM's lullaby
  3. Mom's strudel
  4. SAM
  5. The old skate rink

Now you can head to the stern. Try to open the first aid cabinet, but it is locked. Enter the cabins, then go right 3 times and down the ladder once to level -1. Now head left 3 times and into the cabin here. Try each of the 4 drawers over the fridge and search the one that opens to get a white key. Pick up the old card on the floor to the right of the desk for the next secret (9/10). Head all the way back outside to the stern. Use the white key on the first aid cabinet, then take the defibrillator from inside.

Enter the cabins, then go right 3 times and down the ladder twice to reach level -2. Look at the Power Aspirator 2000, then try to use it. Use your defibrillator on it, then try to use it again, but it needs a pipe. Go left and enter the cabin here. Get SAM to use your crowbar on the corrugated pipe. Leave the cabin and go left once more, then go through the door to the tank. Have SAM talk to the vastness SCREAM INTO THE VOID. Pay attention to the sound and count the number of different notes in each of the 3 parts of the returning sound.

Return to the corridor, then go right twice. Use the corrugated pipe on the Power Aspirator 2000. Now the Power Aspirator 2000, then climb down the ladder to reach level -3. Enter the room here and grab the helm on the left. Return to the corridor and go up the ladder 3 times. Go left and head up the stairs to the bridge.

Put the helm on the helm hub, then use the helm (you will hear something open downstairs). Return to the corridor, then go right and down the ladder once to level -1. Go left once, then enter storage. Look at the small plastic box, then take a battery from inside. Go back to the corridor, then right and down the ladder twice to level -3.

Go left and take the note from the wall - it says "Listen to the void... it tells you secrets". Go left again and try to use the keypad. Use the battery on the keypad, then enter the code you heard from the void (for example, if you heard "ah-ah, ah, ah-ah-ah" the code is 213).

Use the red spray can on the motion sensor, then move the double lever on the left down. Now press the emergency button SEE THE LIGHT AGAIN.

Part 5: Calm and Storm

Head down to the path and pick up the raspberries, then get SAM to pick up the big rock. Continue right and forward. Pick up the raspberries and the small rock. Look at the flickering reality before returning back. Pick up some more raspberries on the right here, then continue right. Grab the board from the bridge, and some more raspberries from the right of the bridge. Return left and use the board on the pointy rock. Put the small rock on the board, then have SAM put the big rock on the board. Grab the bucket.

Go forward and examine the cubic terminal. Use your dust blower on the power box, then use the power box and talk to the cubic terminal. Search the work pants to get an old coin, and search the box to get a long rope. Now go back and right to the bridge. Combine the long rope and bucket, then use this on the stream (you will end up with some crystal clear water). Return left twice and use the old coin on the bread dispenser to get some bread. Return left to the hilltop and talk to Ren about the picnic.

Head down to the path and right. Get SAM to pick up the big rock. Go right twice and get the aerial, then get SAM to pick up another big rock. Head forward and grab the rusty mini bot, and get SAM to pick up yet another big rock. Go left twice and use the rusty mini bot on the porous stone to the left of the bridge - now you have a sharpened mini bot. Go left and forward and use the sharpened mini bot on the cabinet, then search the cabinet to get fast release spray, a screwdriver and a plunger.

Go back, right twice and forward. Get SAM to use the screwdriver on the big dead robot, then take out the big magnet. Return left and use the big magnet on the generator, then use the fast release spray on the heavy valve so you can turn it. Go forward again and use the pump and pipes to get a big elastic band. Return left 4 times and use SAM to get the large cog. Return left to the hilltop and talk to Ren.

Use the terminal and select to "Start the Scan". Talk to Rumpf with these options:

  • You needed minutes for some weird shapes and muddy colors?
  • Wait, are you jealous of my dad?

Use your plunger on the drain, then continue the conversation:

  • No doubt it's your space, Mr Rumpf. The best you can create...
  • Yes!

Use your baseball on the open pipe, then continue again:

  • I trust my dad! I'll launch Encodya and everything will be okay. For everyone!
  • Just because you can't understand... or feel Encodya doesn't mean dad's wrong.

Use your fast release spray on the fan, then talk again:

  • We're not trying to defeat you, we're trying to help Neo Berlin!
  • Neo Berlin is grey, and sad. My dad and Encodya will change it!

Use your screwdriver on the power box. Talk to Rumpf once more:

  • What a nasty man you are, to bring my mom into this!
  • Yeah? Then who is cyberspace for?

Now use the terminal.

Head left to the alley. Press the hidden buttons to the right of the Chop Suey bar, then go through the door to find the final secret (10/10) EASTER EGGS FANATIC. Go back outside, then head left twice and up to the rooftop. Use your shelter UPLOAD ENCODYA.

There are also 3 additional achievements that may unlock at this stage:

  • Finish the game using less than 5 hints SKILLED ADVENTURER
  • Finish the game using no hints ADVENTURE MASTER
  • Finish the game in less than 3.5 hours SPEED RUNNER
