Dead Take is a first person mystery horror game that tells the story of two actors competing for the lead role in the next film of a powerful but corrupt producer. The story is unveiled through FMV cutscenes, including a mechanism where you can splice scenes together.

Introduction

In the green room, step forward and pick up the phone. In the blue bathroom, examine The Last Voyage invitation (1/115) and Vinny's wallet (2/115), making sure to open the wallet to see the driver's license. Open the medicine cabinet and take out the pills. In the red corridor, go forward and open the door.

Gaining Entry

In your inventory, open the tattered wallet (3/115), making sure to examine the driver's license. Go over to the left of the main entrance and use your flashlight to see the number 5167 on the pillar. Now open the sliding door and enter the security office.

Search the drawers on the left to find the unsigned NDA (4/115). Look at the notice board to see the Raven party guest list (5/115). Look on the sofa to see the Kingmaker article (6/115). Search the drawers in the far corner of the room to find the frequency note (7/115). Examine the Lampblack Productions mug (8/115) on the desk.

Open the white cabinet on the wall and take out the blank key fob. Put this on the key fob reader next to the computer. Examine the computer and enter the code 51.320, then press the Upload button. Now take back the key fob.

Go back outside and around towards the main entrance. Look at another The Last Voyage invitation (9/115) on the ledge to the left. Examine the intercom and use the key fob on the reader to open the doors. Go through and approach the mansion, then head inside RSVP.

Cinema Projector

Enter the coat room on the right. There are 4 paintings to examine:

  • 1948 painting by Carmen Duval (10/115)
  • 1984 painting by Elena Moretti (11/115)
  • 1989 painting by Jonas Feldman (12/115)
  • 1995 painting by Oskar Lindholm (13/115)

Also look at the NDA signed by Vinny (14/115), another Raven party guest list (15/115) and another The Last Voyage invitation (16/115). Leave the coat room and turn right, then go through the double doors into the foyer.

Around to the left, search the drawers to find a note from Mommy (17/115). Read the Duke Cain business card (18/115) on the armchair in the sitting area to the left. Continue to the larger sitting area and examine the Kingmaker article (19/115) on the low table. Turn around and read the Tree of Resilience plaque (20/115) on the wall. Now head to the area with the red flashing light and go downstairs to the entertainment wing.

Explore the area to the right, and examine the awards on shelves along the wall:

  • Conservatoire Award - Deep Calleth Unto Deep (21/115)
  • All-Seeing Eye Award - The Freelancers (22/115)
  • Grand Prize Award - Ab Invito (23/115)
  • Conservatoire Award - Spendthrift Nocturne (24/115)
  • All-Seeing Eye Award - White Bishop (25/115)
  • Golden Lens Award - Starvation, Michegan (26/115)
  • Conservatoire Award - The Wanderer (27/115)

Go over to the red flashing light. Look at the security reminder (28/115) on the wall to the right, and the Lia Cain Theater plaque (29/115) on the wall to the left. Further to the left, look at the Lia Cain portrait plaque (30/115). Rotate this to see the back of Lia Cain portrait plaque (31/115). Examine the keypad to the right of the theater door and enter the code 1989.

Inside the cinema, there is a chair where you can sit down. Examine the back of the chair to the side of this one to find a Frank Gardeu plaque (32/115) and a Fuck Duke note (33/115). Continue through the side door and up some stairs to find the projector room.

Read the editorial notes (34/115) including the back of the editorial notes (35/115) on the table to the right. Go up to the raised portion of the room with the projector. Open the toolbox on the ground and take out the screwdriver. Read the Falcon invoice (36/115) and the Out of Order note (37/115) next to the projector. Head over to the lower part of the room. Read The Monroe Mystique article (38/115) on the coffee table. Read the architectural concerns email (39/115) on the desk, then open the desk drawer and take out the media flash drive. Press the button on the answering machine to listen to the SPLAICE message (40/115). There is also an evidence board on the wall here, where you can review some of the items you have examined during the game.

Go back up the stairs to reach the foyer again. Turn left to see some blocked double doors, then continue left and along the hallway to the end, and you will find a small art gallery. Examine the four plaques on the artworks, which are currently covered:

  • The Dreamer plaque (41/115)
  • Price & Illusion plaque (42/115)
  • The Rising Star plaque (43/115)
  • The Final Curtain plaque (44/115)

On the low cabinet on the side of the gallery you can find The Sinner's Showcase article (45/115). Open this cabinet and look inside at the scratched photograph (46/115). Now examine the robotic vacuum in the corner of the room with the flashing red light. Flip it over and use your screwdriver to remove the 2 screws. Now remove the bottom panel and take the storeroom key.

Head out towards the front of the house again. There is a single door opposite the coat room that leads to the garage. Go there and head down stairs, then back around to the left. Open the white cabinet on the wall and examine the Hilary Repairs service log (47/115). Go to the far corner of the room and use your storeroom key to unlock the storeroom, then head inside. Read the bloody note (48/115) on the left, making sure to also read the back of the bloody note (49/115). Open the cabinet at the end of the room and take out the IIP Part Box. Open this in your inventory and take out the integrated image processor.

Make your way back into the foyer, then back through the cinema to the projector room. Examine the side of the projector and remove the 2 screws with your screwdriver. Swap your integrated image processor with the broken one to repair the projector Self Tape.

Go out to the cinema and sit in the director's chair, then press the play button to watch the currently loaded video (ST_DONTUSE_PHONEINTERFERENCE). Pay attention to Vinny's phone PIN, which is 4328. At the end of the video, there will be knocking on the back door of the cinema. Go and open the door, then head out to the crib. Take the shield key, which is hanging just above the crib.

Shield Room

Go upstairs to the foyer. Head around to the left in the direction of the gallery, and the elevator will open on the left. Go inside and pick up the Mbombo's Reign VHS tape (50/115), also examining the back of the Mbombo's Reign VHS tape (51/115).

Back in the corridor find the door with the shield symbol over it, and unlock it with the shield key, then go inside. Look in the shelves on the right to see a scratched photograph (52/115). Look in the nearby drawer to see an empty chest note (53/115). Examine the teddy bear (54/115) in the shelves. Interact with the Jack-in-the-box at the foot of the bed, spinning the handle until it opens. Take the cassette case (55/115) and examine it. Rotate it around and open it, then take out the music sheet.

Return out to the foyer and go upstairs, then head over to the piano. Open the cover and use your music sheet on the music stand to reveal a series of 5 symbols. Press these in the correct order on the piano keyboard. Take the cassette tape from the compartment that opens on the left.

Go back to the shield room again. Examine the cassette player on the desk to the left. Press the eject button, insert the cassette tape, then press play. Now look at the baby monitor to the right to see the code 2429 My Little Angel.

Open the wardrobe to the right of the bed, then open the safe with the code 2429. Take out the courtyard key and another media flash drive.

Spa Retreat

Leave the shield room and head to the art gallery again. Use the courtyard key on the double doors here, then head outside. Go immediately around to the right and pick up the Machine Play VHS tape (56/115), also examining the back of the Machine Play VHS tape (57/115).

Staying outside, follow the curving paths around to a separate building. Just inside, look in the shelves on the left to find the Spendthrift Aubade review (58/115). Continue through the next double doors into a large open room. Around to the left, take the snake tail (whip) from the hooks on the wall, then read the steam room note (59/115), which is on a blue towel on the floor next to the jacuzzi. Grab the snake tail (dagger) from the heel of the large marble statue.

Head around the right side of the large swimming pool and pick up the snake tail (sickle) from a pot plant on the raised ledge. At the far end of the pool, examine the jump bitch champagne bottle (60/115), then walk off the end of the diving board Break a Leg.

In the bottom of the pool, pick up the snake tail (sword), and examine the fucking worked article (61/115). Climb out of the pool and go through the open door over towards the right into the sauna.

Turn left once you enter, and open the wooden box on the wall using your screwdriver. Turn the sauna on using the switch here. Read the Vulcanus 200s instructions (62/115) and the sauna sticky note (63/115) on the inside of the wooden box. Now close the sauna door and close all 3 vents. Use the wooden ladle to add water to the stones, then wait for the temperature to reach 195 degrees. Open the vent just to the right of the stones and wait for the temperature to reach 185 degrees, then take the left trident tine that is revealed. Leave the sauna.

Go through the next door on the left to find the steam room. Read the four serpents plaque (64/115) on the wall here, then attach the 4 snake tail weapons as follows:

  • Top: Sword
  • Left: Sickle
  • Right: Dagger
  • Bottom: Whip

Pick up the middle trident tine that is revealed. Now wander through the maze until you reach the exit. Next head into the laconium, through the door to the left side of the swimming pool. Examine the central tiled area and rotate the discs to create a cohesive picture (start from the outside). Pick up the right trident tine. Return out to the large marble statue and insert the 3 tines. Once the statue rises up, read the spare me brother plaque (65/115) beneath it. Go around the back of the statue and head down the stairs and through the door.

Read the Victoria Cross official complaint (66/115) on the small table, and pick up the media flash drive from the chair A Little R&R. Turn around and read the drug addicted bitch message (67/115) on the window. Go back upstairs and leave this building. Use your courtyard key to open the other set of double doors here and you will be back in the foyer.

First Splices

Make your way downstairs again into the entertainment wing. There will be a new open door that you can go through to find the audition room. Take the media flash drive that is hanging from the ceiling. There are 4 photos you can examine in this room - make sure you read the captions on the backs of each of them:

  • Victoria Cross photograph (68/115)
  • Zara Good photograph (69/115)
  • Chase Lowry photograph (70/115)
  • Vinny Monroe photograph (71/115)

On the desk, examine the Gayle Mandy letter (72/115) and turn it over to read the sweetheart note (73/115). Open the desk drawer and read the Gayle note (74/115). Look in the narrow set of shelves to read the framed review (75/115). Look on the chair in the corner of the room to find the audition list (76/115).

Head back through the cinema to the projector room. You should be carrying around 4 media flash drives, so insert these into the reader next to the computer here. Now watch each of the 4 new available videos, by loading the media in the computer, then going out to the director's chair, sitting down and pressing play:

  • MG_CWINTERS
  • CL_LCAIN

Return to the projector room again and use the "Splaice" tab to combine the following pair of videos:

  • Combine BLUE_MOON with MOMENT_IN_THE_SUN to make STAR_POWER

You will get an achievement for splicing your first pair of videos Cutting Room. Now use the Cinema tab to select and watch this video:

Pay attention to the code implied by Chase, which is 7210. At the end of the video, there will be knocking on the back door of the cinema. Go and open the door, then head out to the painting. Take the painting key from the top of the painting.

Second Splices

Head all the way up to the top floor and go out to the balcony over the top of the art gallery. There will be banging from the nearby door, so go through into a large bathroom. Examine the teddy bear (77/115) in the shelves beneath the large mirror. Go around to the toilet and examine the Frank Gardeu photograph (78/115) including the caption on the back.

Go back out to the balcony and use your painting key to unlock the display cabinet here. Examine the book and open it with the code 7210. Now read all 4 pages of The Bargain of Dr Faustus book (79/115). Go down the stairs here and you will see that the 4 plaques for the pieces of artwork match the 4 pages in the book. You need to change the backgrounds of the artworks so they are in the correct chronological order:

  • The Dreamer: Dawn
  • The Rising Star: Noon
  • Price and Illusion: Dusk
  • The Final Curtain: Night

A new doorway will open in the corner of the room, with a red light coming through False Artist. Go through the door and down the steps, then go through the door straight ahead to find a kitchen. Search the drawers to find the Father Voss note (80/115). On the counter, pick up the Akazard VHS tape (81/115), also examining the back of the Akazard VHS tape (82/115). Examine the child's drawing (83/115) on the refrigerator, turning it over to see the back of the child's drawing (84/115). On the wall just to the left of the double doors, you can read an internal staff notice (85/115).

Go through the double doors into a set with 3 mannequins. Go to the board on the left and look at take one (86/115), take two (87/115) and take three (88/115). Pick up the singular rose and sailor's hat from the table here. Examine the mannequins and pick up the holy bible, captain's hat, cowboy hat and handgun. Go to the table in the back of the room and read the email from Carlile (89/115). Look at the other board to see the shot list (90/115), the scene images (91/115), and then the Harry Dufresne photograph (92/115) on the floor, making sure to turn it over to see the caption.

Go up the stairs and press the button to change the background to a night scene. Now you need to go back to the mannequins and set them up according to the final take (using information from all 3 takes):

  • Left Mannequin: Kneeling position, screwdriver in hand
  • Middle Mannequin: Lying position, holy bible in hand
  • Right Mannequin: Standing position, captain's hat on head, singular rose in hand

Push the camera so that it is at the left position, then press the red button on the camera Lights, Camera, Action. Take the media flash drive from the nearest mannequin's hand. Go back through the kitchen, then continue down the stairs to the bottom and go through the door here to return to the entertainment wing.

Head back through the cinema to the projector room. Insert the media flash drive into the reader, then watch the following new video:

Return to the projector room again and use the "Splaice" tab to combine the following pair of videos:

  • Combine BLUE_MOON with YELLOW_BELLY to make GREEN_EYED_MONSTER

Now use the Cinema tab to select and watch this video:

At the end of the video, there will be knocking on the back door of the cinema. Go and open the door, then head out to the stack of reels. Take the red bulb from the top of the stack.

Third Splices

Go over to the door with the red flashing light over it, and head inside. Read the Developing Step by Step poster (93/115) on the left wall. Now take the light bulb that is hanging in the middle of the room, and the room will change. Take the undeveloped roll of film, then turn around and insert the red bulb in the hanging light socket.

You will now find yourself in a large dark room with sets of shelves blocking your way. Go over to a notice board and examine the reminder note (94/115), as well as the Developing Step by Step poster (95/115). Go to the far side of the room and find a notepad that contains the approved chemicals list (96/115). Now you need to go through the steps to develop your film reel:

  1. Wash: Put the undeveloped film reel in the yellow unit, press the white button, then take out the washed film reel.
  2. Develop: Put the washed film reel in the pink unit, press the white button, then take out the developed film reel.
  3. Stop: Put the developed film reel in the red unit, press the white button, then take out the stopped film reel.
  4. Fix: Put the stopped film reel in the blue unit, press the white button, then take out the fixed film reel.
  5. Wash: Put the fixed film reel in the yellow unit, press the white button, then take out the completed film reel.

Turn around and you will eventually find yourself back in the starting dark room. Put the completed film reel on the left side of the digitizer, then press the green button. Take the media flash drive A Lightbulb Moment. Head back through the cinema to the projector room. Insert the media flash drive into the reader, then watch the following new video:

Return to the projector room again and use the "Splaice" tab to combine the following pairs of videos:

At the end of the last video, there will be knocking on the back door of the cinema. Go and open the door, then head out to the stack of televisions. Pick up the Eleven Lock VHS tape (97/115), also examining the back of the Eleven Lock VHS tape (98/115).

Security

Go up to the top floor, and you will find that the door with the torch symbol above it is now open. Go inside and read the just like me note (99/115) on the bed. Continue through the next door into a bathroom. On the bench, examine The Last Voyage invitation (100/115) and Vinny's wallet (101/115), making sure to open the wallet to see the driver's license. Open the medicine cabinet and take the Red Valley VHS tape (102/115), also examining the back of the Red Valley VHS tape (103/115).

You should now have all 5 VHS tapes. Return to the corridor, then go left and open the door with the mountain symbol above it. Go inside and examine the teddy bear (104/115) to the right. Read all 3 pages of the guest book (105/115) just below the teddy bear. Pay attention to the order mentioned on the second page next to the initials TC. Look in the bedside tables to find a holy bible (106/115). Go over to the tall set of shelves and read the little boy wonder plaque (107/115). Now you need to insert the 5 VHS tapes in the correct order from top to bottom:

  1. Eleven Lock
  2. Red Valley
  3. Mbombo's Reign
  4. Machine Play
  5. Akazard

The shelves will move aside so you can enter a secret security office behind. Examine both sides of the Dylan Holmes cheque (108/115) and you should get an achievement Take Your Shot. Just to the right, read the blackmail log book (109/115). On the large bench, read the security memo (110/115) and the property of Vinny Monroe note (111/115). Take Vinny's cellphone from the box. Open the left drawer and examine the hard drive (112/115). You can open the door here and go all the way downstairs to return to the entertainment wing.

Unlock Vinny's cellphone using the PIN you learned in an earlier video (4328). Read through all the messages and you will see a code from Duke Cain. Examine the keypad next to the door with the mouse over it, and enter the code 1016. Open the door and go inside.

Examine the teddy bear (113/115), the unsigned NDA (114/115) on the wall, and the bloody note (115/115) on the chair. You should now receive the achievement for finding all lore in the game An Actor Prepares. Pick up the UV flashlight from the bed Ultraviolence.

Conclusion

Activate the UV flashlight to see bloodstains and writing everywhere. Go out to the entertainment wing and look at the All-Seeing Eye awards on the shelves Eye of the Beholder. Now follow the blood trails up to the top floor and into the torch bedroom. Push the Lullaby poster on the wall and take the media flash drive.

Head back through the cinema to the projector room. Insert the media flash drive into the reader, then watch the following new video:

  • DYING_OF_HUNGER

At the end of the video, there will be knocking on the back door of the cinema. Go and open the door, then head out to the bed. Take the final media flash drive. Return to the projector room and insert the media flash drive into the reader, then watch the following new video:

  • ALL_DEVOURING DEATH

At the end of the video, leave the cinema. The mannequins will block your path, so head all the way up to the top floor and enter the main office, which has a trophy symbol over the door Peek-A-Boo. Approach the desk. Once the scene changes, go to the small table and lift up the cloche to get a gun. Go through the opened doors, then follow the red carpet into the next room. Open the bathroom door, then go inside and shoot Vinny.

Now head along the next hallway until you find yourself back in the cinema. Watch the video from Vinny, then turn around and leave. Now watch the video from Chase, then go through the next door. In this dark room, walk forward until the message from Vinny begins. Watch this until it ends, then continue along the next hallway into the elevator. Turn around and use the elevator controls to go down. At the bottom, go forward and stand on the X, then click on the camera In the Spotlight.
