The Dark Half is a third-person adventure game based on the Stephen King novel of the same name. You play as horror novelist Thad Beaumont, who must investigate and ultimately survive the dark actions of his evil twin George Stark.

Day 1

Night

Look at the open grave, then head right and ask Digger to unlock the shed. Open the shed door and go inside, then pick up the rope and flashlight before leaving again. Go left out of the cemetery and look at the body on the road, then search the body. In your inventory open Homer's camera to get the film. Walk along the road into town.

Open the tavern door (just right of the big restaurant). Talk to the bartender about everything, then pick up the beer stein from the bar before leaving. Walk right in town and search the truck outside Auto City. Pick up the cigarette butts, pencil and whiskey bottle. Look at the rear view mirror to see it has fingerprints on it. Now use the travel option to go home.

Walk inside. Look at the book on the side table and pick it up. Look at it again in your inventory. Next push the bookcase on the back wall and walk through to your study. Push the bookcase again in here and take the paper from the wastepaper basket. Pull the bookcase again and leave the study, then pull the bookcase closed again. Head through the doorway into your bedroom. Open the closet and use the bloody whiskey bottle in there, then close the closet. Open the top left drawer and pick up a shirt, then use the clean shirt in your inventory to get changed. Use the lamp next to your bed to go to sleep.

Day 2

Morning

Leave your bedroom to meet the police. Answer their questions with options 1, 2, 3, 3, 2 and 1. Use the travel option to go to town.

Walk right and open the door to the photo shop. Talk to the salesman on the left and give him your film. Open the door to head back outside, then open the restaurant door. Pull the left seat cushion of the front right booth and pick up the quarters and cigarette lighter. Also pick up the glass from the booth on the far left. Now use the front right booth to sit down. In your inventory use the cigarette lighter on the cigarette butts, then use the pencil on the blank paper.

Walk outside by going right, then open the barber shop door. Ask the barber where Fred Clawson lives, then go back outside and walk to Fred's apartment (the brown building across the street). Look at the car, then pick up the paper from the street and talk to the old lady. Look at the directory on the wall of the building, then open the front door. Pick up the blue bottle of tear gas from the floor, then walk through the door on the left. Look at the writing on the wall, look at Fred (on the bed), then open the closet and quickly use the bottle of tear gas on the dog. Use your flashlight on the closet and look at the strongbox inside. Go back out of the apartment, down the stairs and to the right to return to town. Open the door to the hardware store and ask the hardware guy about the strongbox, then travel home.

Walk inside and look at the cabinet on the left, then try to open it. Pick up the plant on the floor, then pick up the key it was hiding. Use the key on the cabinet, open the cabinet and pick up the pistol, then close the cabinet again. Travel back into town.

Walk to Fred's apartment and go inside and into the apartment. Pick up the pillow from the floor. Use your flashlight on the closet, and the pillow with your pistol. Pick up the money from the strongbox, then head back out to town. Go to the photo shop again and talk to the salesman on the right about buying some film. Give your money to him and pick up the film. Go back outside and your beeper will go off. Open the telephone booth and use your quarters in the phone, then travel home.

Open your mailbox, then use your pistol in it and close it again. Head inside and talk to the police again with options 3, 1, 3 and 1.

Night

Use the telephone on the side table to try to call Reggie. Push your bookshelf and go through to your study, then use the chair. In your inventory use the cigarette lighter on the cigarette butts, then use the pencil on the blank paper. Walk out to the living room and pull the bookshelf closed. Head into the bedroom and use the lamp.

Day 3

Morning

Walk out to the living room and use the telephone. Go back into the bedroom and pick up the note from next to the mirror, then read it in your inventory. Open the closet and search the jacket to get some more money. Travel to Miriam Cowley's apartment.

Open the door to get inside, and pick up the paper from the floor, then look at it in your inventory. Open the apartment door and look at the body. Pick up the tissue from the floor, then look at it in your inventory and open it. Next look at the vase on the floor over on the left. Use your stein in the fish tank, then the stein of water in the vase. Repeat this to fill up the vase so you can pick up the bird whistle. Try to leave to the right, and George will appear. Use your new film in the camera, then use the camera on George. Pick up the fireplace poker from the left, then use it on George. Now open the door to the right, push the button for the lift, and travel to town.

Walk right and open the photo shop door. Talk to the salesman on the left, give him your money and pick up the photos. Look at the picture of the killer in your inventory. Give your book to the salesman and you will get your money back. Open the door to leave, then head left and walk to the university. Open the door but you won't go inside - use your rope on the tree instead. Talk to Reggie with options 1, 2, 3, 1, 2 and 3, then use the window to leave again.

Back at town open the barber shop door again and talk to the barber - say you are here to kill him, then pick up the razor. Look at it in your inventory to see it is dull. Open the door to leave again, and enter the hardware store. Talk to the hardware guy, then pick up the note and look at it in your inventory. Travel home.

Head inside and talk to the police with options 2, 2, 2, 2, 1 and 3. After they have left, push your bookshelf and go through to your study, then use the chair. In your inventory use the cigarette lighter on the cigarette butts, then use the pencil on the blank paper. Walk out to the living room and pull the bookshelf closed. Head into the bedroom and use the lamp.

Night

Walk out to the living room and use the telephone. Open your door to go outside. Look at the tree branches and pull the tree branches to get one. Open the door and go back inside. Use the tree branch in the bowl on the side table, then use your cigarette lighter on the branch. Now quickly stand on the front left corner of the room (hidden next to the cabinet), and when the police officers enter the bedroom quickly leave the house. Travel to Rick Cowley's office.

Open the door and use the phone. Pick up the notes from the floor on the right, then look at the notes. Look at the book in the stand on the small desk. Walk to the door and use the taxi, then travel to Dr Pritchard.

Day 4

Morning

Walk to the entrance of the hospital and talk to Dr Pritchard with options 1, 2 and 3. Look at the cart and open the drawer, then search the drawer and pick up the scalpel and first aid kit. Use the phone over on the left, then travel to town.

Walk to the university and use your rope on the tree to get inside. Talk to Reggie with options 3, 2 and 1. Use the disguise in your inventory, then use the window and travel home.

Use your scalpel on the ropes to free Liz. Push the bookshelf, but it is stuck. Go to the bedroom and open the closet (if it is closed), then pick up the whiskey bottle. Open the first aid kit in your inventory to find some gauze. Use the gauze in the whiskey bottle, then head back out to the living room. Use your cigarette lighter on the bottle, then use your Molotov cocktail on the bookcase to blow it open.

Walk to the hole in the wall and you will confront George - select options 3 and 1. Use your very dull razor with the table while he is gone. After he returns select options 2, 3, 3 and 2.
