A Personal Nightmare is a horror adventure game by Horrorsoft, makers of the Elvira series of games. After receiving a message from your father, you return to your home town to find him missing and many of the other townspeople behaving strangely. You must investigate the evil forces that have taken hold of the town.

Day 1

Wait in the pub to receive a key. Open the small door and go east, then go up, east and north into the landlord's room. Take the mirror, then return south. Open the door and go northeast into your room, where you should drop your briefcase and tie. Return southwest, west, down and west to the bar. Wait here until Mr Roberts leaves, then examine the jacket and take the yale key from the jacket. Go east, open the side door and go north to the street. Examine Jimmy, then take the shiny key, film and numberplate.

Go north, east twice, north, west twice and down. Open the door, then go east 5 times and the coffin will start to open. Go west to back away from the vampire, then go west 3 more times. When the vampire is near, "reflect light with mirror" to kill him. Return east 4 times, then open the door and go east.

Head upstairs, drop your shoes and go north. Look under the bed to get a ladder. Examine Alice, then get the key. Return south and drop the ladder. Take your shoes again and wear them, then climb the ladder, open the loft door, and head up. Take the jug, then fill it with water, and pour the water to kill Alice. Now unlock the chains to save Judy.

Return down twice and go south. Pick up the gloves, then head south twice and east. Show your numberplate to the cop (wait if he isn't here yet). Now walk east twice and south. Unlock and open the south door, then go south to enter Ivy Cottage.

Open the south door, then go south. Open the cupboard, examine the cupboard and take the screwdriver. Go west and look under the table, then take the magazine. Examine the magazine to find a voucher, then drop the magazine. Now go east, south and west into the shed. Rearrange your inventory (move keys and other small items into your suit). Get the secateurs, sledgehammer and oily rag. Open the box and take the maul. Remove the handle from the maul, then drop the maul. Look behind the pots and take the oilstone.

Head east and north 3 times, then close and lock the door. Drop the shiny key. Go north twice and west 13 times. Open the gates and go north. Wait here until the village clock strikes eleven, then examine the fence and take the stake.

Go north, then when the hell hound is right near you "kill dog with stake". Go north and west, then smash the mausoleum with your sledgehammer, and go west. Take the axe and put the handle on the axe.

Next walk east twice, south 4 times and east 10 times. Unlock the door (with the yale key), then open the door and go south into the Registrar's Office. Read the painting, then examine the safe and "dial 1815". Look in the safe, take the papers, then close the safe again. Examine the papers, then pick up the marriage certificate and drop the papers. Return north, then close and lock the door. Drop the yale key.

Go west 6 times. Unlock the door (with the large key), then open the door and go south. Go southwest to the kitchen, then quickly put the plug in the sink. Go northeast, then back to the southwest. Look in the washing machine, then in the trousers, and take the tiny key. Examine the shelf and take the matches from the shelf. Examine the knife holder and take the knife from it. Return northeast. Open the small door, then go east, up and east. Open the northeast door and go northeast. Close the door and sleep.

Day 2

Open the door, then go southwest. Open the north door and go north. Put the mirror back, then go south and west. Open the north door and go north. Examine the pillow and take the diary, then return south. Unlock the diary (with the tiny key), then drop the tiny key. Go down and west to the bar.

Open the door and go north, then continue north, east 4 times, and south. Wait here until the garage door is open, then look in the bin and take the numberplate. Go north and east 3 times. Show the diary, numberplate and certificate to the cop.

Head west and open the door, then go south. Show the certificate to the registrar. Now go north twice, west 3 times and north. Open the door and go north into the church. Go north twice more, then get the pen from the tidy. Smash the desk with the hammer, then take the vicarage key from the desk. Go south 3 times, west twice and north twice.

Unlock the door (with the vicarage key), then open the door and go west. Continue up the stairs, then open the west door and go west. Examine the bed and the books, then open Treasure Island and take the savings book. Return east and down. Smash the wall with the hammer 3 times, then drop the hammer. Get the crucifix. Cut the fingers with your secateurs, then take the prayer book. Open the south door and go south. Examine the chair and take the wool, then return north. Drop the vicarage key.

Walk east, south twice, east twice, south twice and east 4 times. Go south into the Post Office, and examine the display stand. Take the reply envelope and address the reply envelope. Put your film and voucher in the envelope, then seal the envelope. Give your savings book to the postmistress and you will get a coin. Buy a stamp and put the stamp on the envelope. Go north and post the envelope.

Go north, west 4 times, north 3 times and up. Cut the rope with your secateurs, then go down and get the rope. Drop the secateurs. Go south, west 3 times and south into the bar. Wait here until the village clock strikes eleven (everyone should have left now), then take the bugle. Open the small door, and go east, up, east and northeast. Close the door and sleep.

In your dream, when the troops are approaching, blow the bugle.

Day 3

Open the door, then go southwest. Pick up the pop gun. Throw wool at the cat, then go northeast and close the door. Fire the gun, take the cork, and drop the gun. Now open the door and go southwest, west, down and west. Put the bugle back. Wait here until the village clock strikes eleven (everyone should have left now), then unlock the door (with the large key), open the door and go north.

While the car is still, go east, then as it approaches you go north. Repeat this pattern until the car crashes. Go north and open the glove box, then look in the glove box and take the set of keys. Go south twice, west and south. Unlock the door (with the set of keys), then open the door and go south and east. Examine the desk and then examine the papers. Take the bill. Return west and examine the bench. Take the goggles and wear them. Take the spanner, and wear the gloves. Go west again. Light the torch with your matches, then cut the hook with the torch and take the hook. Now press the red button to raise the car. Go east then get under the car. Wipe the nut with your rag. Turn the nut with your spanner. Put your oilstone in the oil, the sharpen the axe with the oilstone.

Walk west, east, north 3 times, west 8 times, and north 4 times. Tie the rope to the hook, then throw the rope and climb the rope. Go north and examine the jacket. Take the bottle and clean it, then go south and climb down the rope again. Head south 4 times and close the gates.

Make sure you have the prayer book and the crucifix in your inventory. Go east 7 times, then north. Open the door and go north twice then east. Read the prayer book, then pray and fill your bottle with tears. Put the cork in the bottle. Return west, south 4 times, west 3 times, and south into the bar. Open the small door, then go east, up, east and northeast. Close the door and sleep.

Day 4

Open the door, then go southwest, west, down and west to the bar. Wait here until you receive an envelope. Open the envelope, take the photos, and drop the envelope. Open the door and go north, then go east 7 times. Show the bill and photos to the cop.

Go west 10 times and south to be outside Rose Cottage. Wait here for 30 minutes, then unlock the door, open the door and go south. Go south to the bedroom, then open the wardrobe, look in the wardrobe, and take the robe. Return north and open the east door. Go east. Look at the small bowl on the table, and take the crumpled note. Return west and take the clock.

Go north twice, then east 10 times. Show the note to the cop. Now go west 7 times and south into the bar. Wait here until the village clock strikes ten.

Walk north twice and west 4 times. Open the gates and go north, then wait until the village clock strikes eleven.

Go north twice and west twice. Push the coffin, then go down and east twice. Wear the robe, and make sure you have the axe and water. Wait here until the acolytes enter and leave, then follow them east. As soon as you recognise your father "kill father with axe". Remove the cork from the bottle, and pour the water on the devil.
