The Legend of Kyrandia 3: Malcolm's Revenge is the third of a series of 3 fantasy adventure games by Westwood Studios, set in the magical realm of Kyrandia. This game follows after The Legend of Kyrandia 2: The Hand of Fate. This time you play as Malcolm, the evil jester from the first game in the series, and get a chance to see his side of the story.

Kyrandia

At the castle dump, make sure you find at least 2 nails, an empty flask, a broken flask, and an old leather boot. Leave the screen and come back if you need to. Leave any other items you find here, as you may want them later. Head west to the castle, then south and west. Use your broken flask to get a flower from the plant, before heading north to the graveyard. Get another flower from the plant here. Look at the grave to identify that it belongs to Katherine. Set your moodometer to nice, then plant the two flowers at her grave and talk to Katherine.

Return east to the crossroads, then head south to the dock and note the circus boat. Go east then west and make sure your mood is on nice, then approach the pegasus landing and talk to Zanthia. Head east twice and get in the transporter to arrive in Town Square. Use a nail to unlock the large padlock here, making sure you still have one bent nail. Go through the toy factory and out the back door to your place. Get the nut on a string from the 3rd draw, and attach a bent nail to it. Search under the bed for your jester staff. Put this in its place in your inventory. Take a look at your family album, before heading back out to the toy factory. Go down the hole on the right of the machine and climb the stairs to enter Town Hall. Leave to the east.

Leaving Kyrandia

There are many different ways of getting from Kyrandia to your next destination. Starting from Town Square, choose one of these options (from easiest to hardest):

Portal Potion

Walk east, then north into the dairy. Get some sesame seeds from the bag. Now return to the cellar by going east, west, into the toy factory, and down the hole. Use the nail on a string to catch an eel in the water. Fertilise the seeds using the eel, then fill an empty flask with water. Place the seeds in the patched hole in the wall, then pour water over the seeds. Go through the hole to the catacombs. Take the stopper out of the flask and fill your empty flask with the Portal Potion. Now head north twice, east twice and south to the Town Arena. Click on the frog if it is in the way. Stand in the middle of the arena and drink the Portal Potion. Walk west to reach the Dog Fort.

Circus Juggler

Head east, south and west. Set your mood to lying. Use the nail on a string in the payment slot. Talk to the bath attendant, then change the water dial until it is very hot. Take the leather jerkin from the window, then exit west. Walk east, then back west again. Repeat the series of steps to get another leather item from the window. You should now have 3 leather items (including the old boot). Head out of the baths, then east twice, west and into the toy factory.

Pull the left lever down (make sure the right lever is up) and click on the red design book - a ball blueprint should float across the top of the screen. Place a leather item in the machine's hopper and press the green button on the right - a leather ball will appear. Repeat this twice more, taking all 3 balls. Now head to the crossroads and go south to the dock. Juggle the balls in front of the dog (click a ball on yourself) - you will be hired and will end up at the Altar of Cats.

Circus Mime Artist

Return to the cellar by going into the toy factory and down the hole. Use the nail on a string to catch an eel in the water. Walk to the outskirts of town (up the stairs, east twice, south, west). When the mime turns his back, put the eel in his hood. Set your mood to lying, then use the nail on a string in the payment slot. Talk to the bath attendant, then change the water dial until it is very hot. Take the mime outfit from the window, then exit west. Walk east twice and get 2 pieces of firewood, then go west and into the toy factory.

Pull the left lever down (make sure the right lever is up) and click on the red design book - a ball blueprint should float across the top of the screen. Place a leather item in the machine's hopper and press the green button on the right - a leather ball will appear. Now move both levers up, throw in some firewood and press the green button to make a toy soldier. Finally, flip the right lever down, put in firewood and press the button to make a wooden horse. Take all 3 toys and go outside. Now head to the crossroads. If the boy eating his sandwich is not here, leave and come back again. When he is present, try giving him each of the toys until he swaps one for his sandwich. Wear the mime costume, and go south to the dock. Talk to the dog and give him the sandwich, then you will end up at the Altar of Cats.

Pegasus

Return to the cellar by going into the toy factory and down the hole. Use the nail on a string to catch an eel in the water. Catch a second eel the same way. Also fill an empty flask with water while you are here. Walk to the outskirts of town (up the stairs, east twice, south, west). When the mime turns his back, put the eel in his hood. Set your mood to lying, then use the nail on a string in the payment slot. Talk to the bath attendant, then change the water dial until it is very hot. Take the mime outfit from the window, then exit west. Walk east twice and get a piece of firewood. Go into the dairy and get some sesame seeds, then fertilise the seeds with an eel before leaving. Head west and into the toy factory. Flip the left lever up and right lever down, then put some firewood into the hopper and press the green button to make a wooden horse.

Exit the toy factory and put on your mime outfit. Enter the house on the left and talk to Zanthia several times - she needs some essence of horse. Put the fertilised seeds beneath the cabinet and water them to distract Zanthia. Now put your wooden horse in the cauldron and get some of the potion in an empty flask. Exit the house, change back into your own clothes, and use the transporter. Now head west twice and walk on to the landing pad. Drink the pegasus potion and you will reach North Beach.

Escaped Prisoner

Head east and take a log of wood. Enter the dairy and get some sesame seeds, then go back outside. Walk south and west twice, then drop the log to the left of the transporter. Use the transporter to get to town square. Now return to the cellar by going into the toy factory and down the hole. Use the nail on a string to catch an eel in the water, then use the eel to fertilise the sesame seeds. Now you need to get chased by the authorities.

Go in to see Zanthia in the house on the left. Leave and use the transporter. Herman will chase you and fall over the log. Get your broken flask in your hand and walk back to the east - Herman will fail to catch you again. Return to the east once more and you will be ordered to go to jail. When you are told to empty your pockets, make sure you keep a nail in your hand. In jail, make a doily by clicking on the rope, then standing on the pedal, cutting the rope, and putting the doily away. After Rowena leaves, pick the lock with your nail. Poke the guy with the scissors and he will make a rope instead of a doily - climb down the rope to escape.

Collect your stuff by going to the dump and searching it. Go and visit Zanthia again, then get captured. This time, make sure you have your fertilised seeds in your hand after emptying your pockets. Haul a load of rocks as instructed, then place the seeds on the rocks and drip some sweat on them to escape. Get your stuff as you leave the castle. Visit Zanthia again, then get captured - you don't need to keep anything in your hand this time. Use the bolt-cutters on Rowena and you will escape. Visit Zanthia and get captured again, with a nail in your hand. Use the nail to pick the lock on the chain and you will escape yet again. This time you will end up at the Altar of Cats.

Two Eels

Use the transporter and go west then south. Catch 3 eels by using your nail on a string in the water. Now return east twice and south. When the mime turns his back, put the eel in his hood. Set your mood to lying, then use the nail on a string in the payment slot. Talk to the bath attendant, then change the water dial until it is very hot. Take the mime outfit from the window, then exit west. Walk east twice and get 2 pieces of firewood. Enter the dairy and get some sesame seeds, then exit again. Go west and into the toy factory.

Now go east, north, east to the rubbish dump. Use the sesame seeds to lure the squirrel closer, then hypnotise it with the nail on a string. Grab the squirrel. Head west and south, then use the transporter again. Head into the toy factory, then down to the cellar again. Put on the mime outfit, then click on the green apple on the rug, then the red apple - you will be teleported to Darm's house. Talk to Darm, then give him your sandwich. Tickle Darm with your staff until he leaves, then talk to Brandywine for a while. Offer her the squirrel and she will tell you about the eel trick. Use the eels together and you will end up at Dog Fort.

Isle of Cats

If you are not currently at the Dog Fort, go to nice mode and hitch a ride on the sesame cart until you arrive there. Walk down into the cat ruins to the right, then exit again. Grab the machete from the ground, then head east into the jungle. While in the jungle, regularly pick the fleas off yourself and discard them. Use the machete to clear away the light foliage, and collect 6 bones (not all on this screen). Make sure you uncover a small hole in the bottom right of the screen, then head east and you will be back at Dog Fort.

Now talk to Duke the Dog and the cat pulling the sesame cart. You need to go and find Fluffy. Head west 3 times (clear foliage and get bones as you go), then north. Enter lying mode, then talk to Fluffy - you will be given a leather mouse. Walk east to the Altar of Cats, then west to the Colossus Ruins. Use the mouse on the large stone balls to turn them into cat statues. Return south, then change to nice mode and catch a ride back to Dog Fort.

Head down into the cat ruins, and down the stairs into the hieroglyphic room. Use the leather mouse to light up the room, then use it on each of the statues. Note which animation occurs with which statue. Now return outside and save your game. Give a bone to Duke and he may or may not recover a gem for you - if he does not, restore and try again; if he does, save your game. Repeat this until you have 6 gems in exchange for your 6 bones.

Return to the Altar of Cats using the sesame cart. Place each of the gems on the altar in turn, noting down which animation occurs with each. Now head west and place 3 gems on their appropriate statues, then go east and place the other three. Take the crystal mouse, and use it on yourself - you turn into a mouse! Walk west, then east and talk to Fluffy. He will eventually give you some cheese and turn to back into yourself.

Head north 3 times to reach North Beach. Talk to each of the pirates, then turn the peg-leg into a mouse with your crystal mouse. You will be taken back to Kyrandia, then banished to the Ends of the Earth.

Ends of the Earth

Save your game. Select the umbrella on the right machine, then insert a coin and take the umbrella. Now select the pool float, insert a coin and take that too. Insert a coin into the left machine and take the insurance policy. Jump into the left barrel to get down the waterfall. Wear your pool float, then use the pump to inflate the flower beneath the ledge. Jump on the flower to cross the gap, then look in the cave. Drop down the waterfall. Deflate the pool float with the pump, then use the umbrella on the hook in the middle of the waterfall to swing across. Now use the umbrella on yourself and click on the rocks below to float down. Look in the cave here, then float down over the rocks again and enter the cave at the bottom.

Limbo

Enter lying mode straight away. Take the key, then return west to the Fish Court. Talk to the merman. How head and northwest, and you will be dragged back to see the queen and play tic-tac-toe. Whenever you play her, try to lose, then talk to her to earn some free time between games.

Now head east, then northwest to the University. Tickle a student with your staff, then steal the apple. Walk off screen and return, doing this a second time so you have two apples. Now eat the apples to get two worms. Go west again and look at the slide. After another game, head back to the slide and climb in to end up on a rubbish dump. Grab as much stuff as you can, then sell it to the blind bat fish for money - he will pay for fondue sets, socks and gold keys. In lying mode, you can also collect 2 coins as the tax collector. Keep earning money in between games of tic-tac-toe until you have 6 coins. Also make sure you collect a newspaper from the rubbish at some point. If you have useless items like moss or extra apples, put them on the ledge next to the blind bat fish, and while he is distracted, steal stuff from his cave.

Now you can get to the Door to the Underworld by giving 5 gold coins to the guy with the cannon. Once there, talk to the lady at the desk to find out about performing a royal seance. You will be summoned to play tic-tac-toe again. Wait until there are 5 pieces on the board (7 mortals including yourself and the servant), then drop the coin, and use the newspaper on it. Leave when you can. Now collect up lots of manufactured items again (fondue sets, socks, keys, etc.). Give your two worms to the bottom of the four fish supporting the water slide, then slide down it again to arrive at the Door to the Underworld. Go into nice mode and talk to the man waiting in the line - you will be processed quickly.

Talk to the people as they walk past, and you will end up back in Kyrandia.

Freeing Kyrandia

Now you will have a good and an evil conscience who can help you. You can either click on one of the, or both - follow the appropriate section below:

Gunther

Head east, north and into the castle. Talk to Louie several times and you will be asked for the gems from the Isle of Cats. Head back outside and east to the dump, and pick up the nut on a string and a bent nail. Now walk west, south and north into the ex-baths. Enter the shop and talk to Herman - sell him whatever he wants to buy (if you don't have it, leave and come back until you do) - and he will give you some sesame seeds. Now return to the dump and lure the squirrel with the seeds, then hypnotise it with the nut on a string. Grab the squirrel.

Head to town square by going west, south twice, east twice and west, then go into the toy factory and down to the cellar. Step on the rug and use the green apple then the red apple to visit Darm. Ask Darm for a portal potion, then ask Brandywine - give her the squirrel when requested. Use the magic carpet to return to the cellar, then climb out through the sewer (the town hall exit is now closed). Exit the toy factory, then go east and south. Use the portal potion to return to the Isle of Cats.

Walk west to the Dog Fort and grab the machete. Walk west twice, then east and north. Talk to Fluffy, who will give you a cheesemaker. Go east then west. Use the cheesemaker, then use the cheese on the mouse statue and take the 6 gems. Return to Fluffy by going east twice. Talk to him and he will give you a can - use it to return to Kyrandia. Now go back to the castle dump (east, north, east) and get the collar and nut on a string. Go west twice to the castle. Show a gem to Louie, and give the collar to Jean Claude.

Stewart

Head east, north and into the castle. Talk to Louie several times and you will be turned into a mouse and locked up. Tickle the nearest mouse twice with your jester staff to free a nail. Use this to pick your own lock, then free the other mice. Fertilise the sesame seeds with the eel, then place them on the door. Water the seeds with the flask of water, and keep the flask.

Return to the castle by going east, south, west twice, north and west. Talk to Louie again and you will be asked for the games from the Isle of Cats. Exit the castle and return to the toy factory in town, picking up a piece of firewood along the way. Push the left lever up and the right lever down, throw in the firewood and press the green button to make a wooden horse. Take the horse, then go down the hole and climb the stairs into town hall. Talk to Zanthia, then put the horse in the cauldron and take some of the potion in your empty flask.

Go back down the stairs, then climb up the sewer and go outside. Go to the pegasus landing by heading east, south and west 4 times. Use the pegasus potion on yourself and you will arrive on the Isle of Cats. Grab the machete, then walk west twice, east twice, west and north. Talk to Fluffy, who will give you a cheesemaker. Go east then west. Use the cheesemaker, then use the cheese on the mouse statue and take the 6 gems. Return to Fluffy by going east twice. Talk to him and he will give you a can - use it to return to Kyrandia. Now go back to the castle dump (east, north, east) and get the collar and nut on a string. Go west twice to the castle. Show a gem to Louie, and give the collar to Jean Claude.

Gunther and Stewart

Head east, north and into the castle. Talk to Louie several times and you will be asked for the gems from the Isle of Cats. Head back outside and east to the dump, and pick up an empty flask and a nail. Now head west, south twice, east twice and west to town (picking up a piece of firewood on the way). Pick the lock on the left house with your nail, and go inside. Pick the lock to free the trapped mice. Head back outside, then into the toy factory.

Push the left lever up and the right lever down, throw in the firewood and press the green button to make a wooden horse. Take the horse, then go down the hole and climb the stairs into town hall. Talk to Zanthia, then put the horse in the cauldron and take some of the potion in your empty flask.

Go back down the stairs, then climb up the sewer and go outside. Go to the pegasus landing by heading east, south and west 4 times. Use the pegasus potion on yourself and you will arrive on the Isle of Cats. Grab the machete, then walk west and east twice to reach Dog Fort, collecting bones along the way. Dig up all the bones you can find here, then continue west twice, east and north, collecting more bones. Talk to Fluffy, who will ask for 10 bones. Give him what he wants, and he will give you a cheesemaker. Go east then west. Use the cheesemaker, then use the cheese on the mouse statue and take the 6 gems. Return to Fluffy by going east twice. Talk to him and he will give you a can - use it to return to Kyrandia. Now go back to the castle dump (east, north, east) and get the collar and nut on a string. Go west twice to the castle. Show a gem to Louie, and give the collar to Jean Claude.

Clear Malcolm's Name

Drop the machete, cheesemaker and all gems except one. Go and make some toy soldiers and horses, then go to Herman's pawn shop (the ex-baths). You need to get 3 lots of sesame seeds by selling him things he wants, and trade a gem for a crutch as soon as he offers it for sale.

Once you have these items, go back to the dump (west twice, north and east) and get a bent nail, a straight nail, an empty flask, and your nut on a string. Put the bent nail on the nut on a string, then head west, south twice, east twice and west, then down the hole to the cellar. Use the nail on a string to catch 3 eels in the water (you may need to get 1 or 2 of these from near the docks if the supply here runs out). Use two of them to fertilise sesame seeds. Fill your empty flask with water, and water each of the fertilised seeds. Take the third eel with you, and climb up the sewer pipe, then go outside.

Head east and into the dairy. Put both sesame plants in the hopper, then use the straight nail to make a hole in the cream container and fill the flask with cream. Head outside again. Now go west into town, and into the fish cream parlor. Fix the machine with the crutch. Put the eel, sesame seeds and cream into the hopper, then press the button on the counter and grab the sandwich that appears. Head outside, then into the toy factory and through the back door to your room. Look under the bed to get a picture of King William.

Go back out of your room, then down the hole and up the stairs to town hall. Talk to the Voice of Reason and put the portrait on the cabinet, then give it the sandwich. You will be transported to the parlor again. Put the portrait in the cabinet once more and you have completed the game.
