The 7th Guest is a first person adventure game set in a haunted mansion, which makes heavy use of full motion video cutscenes. The story is continued in the sequel, The 11th Hour. A new version of the game has also been released, The 7th Guest: 25th Anniversary.

Main Puzzles

Cake Puzzle

Go through the double doors on the left into the dining room. Approach the dining table and click on the cake. You need to cut the cake into 6 pieces, each containing 2 gravestones, two skulls and one empty square.

Cans Puzzle

Leave the dining room again, turn left and go through the single door into the kitchen. Walk forward and open the cupboard. You need to swap cans around to form a valid sentence: SHY GYPSY SLYLY SPRYLY TRYST BY MY CRYPT.

Telescope Puzzle

Go back out of the kitchen to the lobby, then over to the other side and through the other single door into the library. Cross to the other side of the room and examine the telescope. Click on the letters to form a valid sentence: THERE IS NO POSSIBLE WAY.

Bedspread Puzzle

Leave the library again. Go up the staircase, turn left, and enter the first room on the left. Look at the bedspread. Click on the letters starting from the arrow and going forward or backward 5 spaces: THE * SKY * IS * RUDDY * YOUR * FATE * IS * BLOODY.

Bishops Puzzle

Turn around and leave the room and enter the room directly across the corridor. Look at the rug on the floor and make a note of it (it is a map for later in the game). Click on the rug again to see a grid.

Make the list of moves as follows: A2-B3, E2-D3, D3-B1, B3-D1, E4-D3, D3-C4, B1-A2, D1-C2, C2-E4, C4-E2, A2-C4, E4-B1, A4-C2, C2-E4, E2-D1, C4-B3, B3-A4, B1-D3, D1-B3, B3-A2, D3-E2. You are now half way there.

Now make these moves: A3-B2, E3-D2, D2-B4, B2-D4, E1-D2, D2-C1, B4-A3, D4-C3, C3-E1, C1-E3, A3-C1, E1-B4, A1-C3, C3-E1, E3-D4, C1-B2, B2-A1, B4-D2, D4-B2, B2-A3, D2-E3.

Blood Flow Puzzle

Go back out to the hallway again. Turn left and walk past the staircase, then through the door on the left. Look at the rug on the floor. Open and close the small gates along the pathway to connect the heart with the far end of the maze (it is easiest to work backward from the end). Click on the heart to start the blood flowing.

Queens Puzzle

Turn around and leave this room. Turn left and go through another door into the games room. Click on the chessboard.

Click on the billiard table to go through a secret passage down into the kitchen. Turn right and go through the single door.

You need to rearrange the grates so you can get through a hole on the right side. Click on them in this order: 5, 6, 3, 2, 5, 4, 1, 2, 5, 6, 3, 2, 5, 4, 1, 2, 3, 6, 5, 4, 1, 2, 3, 6, 5, 4, 1, 2, 3, 6, 5.

Crypt Puzzle

You are now in a maze that was originally displayed on the rug in the first bedroom upstairs. Go forward 10 times to see a skeleton at a T junction. Turn right and you will hit a dead end. Turn left 3 times, then go forward, right 3 times, left, right, forward, right and left to reach the crypt. You now need to close all the coffins at the same time; clicking on one also affects the adjacent coffins but the starting position is random so a specific solution is not possible.

Cards Puzzle

Enter the nearest coffin to return through a secret passage to the kitchen. Return to the lobby and across to the other single door into the library again. Enter the fireplace to find another secret passage that takes you upstairs. Go forward then turn left, go forward 4 times, turn right and go through the door to another bedroom. Look at the near bedside table on the right.

Knights Puzzle

Turn around and leave this room through the middle door. Turn left and go forward twice, then turn right and enter the bedroom (where you completed the Bishops puzzle before). Cross the room and go through the other door into a bathroom. Turn around and examine the floor to see a grid.

Spider Puzzle

Turn around and go back through the door. Turn right and go forward, then enter the door on the left to return to the bathroom. Go down through the secret passage in the sink to return to the library. Go out to the lobby and view the cutscene at the front door. You need to place a spider and make it follow a straight line to another point - to solve the puzzle you must cover all the dots but one with spiders. If the purple dots are numbered 1 to 8 clockwise from the top position, select 1-6, 4-1, 7-4, 2-7, 5-2, 8-5, 3-8.

Picture Flip Puzzle

Turn around and head upstairs. At the top, turn left and go to the end of the corridor and through the door into the toy room. Look at the puzzle box on the table. To solve this you click the buttons around the edges of the box to recreate the original picture. Start by getting all 9 pictures the same. Click the button at the bottom of the left column, then the button at the top of the right column. Now only use the row buttons to flip the pictures around and solve the puzzle.

Blocks Puzzle

Walk forward and go through the tiny door in the doll's house. Approach the chest of drawers to see a grid of nine blocks. Click at the bottom of column 1, top of column 3, right of row 1, left of row 3, bottom of column 1, top of column 3, right of row 1 and left of row 3. This should show GET BOY TAD.

Floor Pit Puzzle

Turn around and leave the doll's house (you will leave the toy room). Turn right and enter the room where you completed the coins puzzle earlier. View the cutscene on the left of this room, and you will go through the door into the chapel. Look at the floor here.

Step on the tiles in the floor in the order above to cross the floor safely.

Microscope Puzzle

Walk forward to the altar, then go right through a door into the laboratory. View the cutscene at the workbench, then go over to the microscope and examine it. This game pits you against AI in a game similar to reversi; you must end up with more blue pieces on the board than green to win the game.

Piano Puzzle

Turn around and go through the gate to return to the library. Turn around and go through the door to the lobby, then turn right and go through the double doors into the music room. Watch the cutscene at the piano, then examine the piano. Repeat the sequence of notes that is played (it will eventually be 18 notes in length).

Portrait Puzzle

Turn around and return to the lobby. Go to the base of the stairs and click on the floor here to be taken to the art gallery. Look right and examine the painting of Stauf. You just need to return all squares of the portrait back to normal, by clicking on various parts of the picture.

Final Puzzles

Knives Puzzle

Turn right again and go through the painting here to return to the music room. Click on the plant and you will climb up into one of the bedrooms. Turn around and leave this room, then approach the door straight ahead.

You need to move knives from one point to another jumping over other knives to remove them. Click on the knives at positions 7, 2, 8, 5, 1, 2, 9 and 10.

Windows Puzzle

Go through this door and upstairs into the attic. Examine the model building on the right - the goal is to reach the top of the building by going from 1 window to the next. Each type of window allows you to move only in one direction, which you set the first time you click after selecting that type of window. Start at window 6 from the left, then go up, right, left and down. Select window 3 on the next level, then window 2 on the top level. Go through the far door to complete the game.
